They shouldn't have tried to cover up the shooting. The shooting was 100% justified, the destroying and hiding evidence after the fact wasn't.

Wonder how many pardons Bama is going to hand out? Ford and Clinton pardoned way more than both Bush presidents and a few more than Reagan.

The last paragraph about the commutation said the following about pardons:

"Clinton issued a total of 457 in eight years in office. Bush's father, George H. W. Bush, issued 77 in four years. Reagan issued 406 in eight years, and President Carter issued 563 in four years. Since World War II, the largest number of pardons and commutations — 2,031 — came from President Truman, who served 82 days short of eight years."

Yep, and that is exactly why they got a commutation instead of a pardon. If they had not covered it up they may have never been prosecuted(debatable I know). I am happy this happened, but it still really bothers me they tried to cover it up.

Overall this is a good thing Bush did.

Was the prosecution for the act of shooting that mofo, or the act of trying to cover it up?

Either way, kudos to my President for doing the right thing..... again.

I am not completely knowledgable about this specific case to know for sure, but I know in others the original justified shooting being covered up can cause a prosecution for both. I guess the prosecutor can argue that if you were justified in the original shooting, why would you cover it up?

Maybe someone will know for sure about these border agents case.

Yeh, I saw that on Fox while at the gym. They said it would take 2 months for both men to be released...I wonder why it takes 2 months? But it was not a pardon, but a commutation, so they will have this on thier records forever. They will have a tough time finding work..

So the only thing they really did wrong, obstruction of justice, was overturned on appeal? Illegal aliens shouldn't have civil rights.

Here you go:

Directly from the US Attorney that prosecuted them.

“In this case, the evidence showed that around 1:00 p.m. MT Aldrete, the Mexican alien,
initially ran from the agents, but attempted to surrender with his empty hands raised over his
head after Agent Compean pointed his shotgun at him. When Agent Compean tried to push
Aldrete to the ground with the butt of his shotgun, Agent Compean tripped and fell. Aldrete then
took off running again toward the Rio Grande River and Mexico. Compean chased Aldrete,
firing at him with his pistol 14 times, pausing once to reload and then shoot some more. Agent
Ramos shot once and struck Aldrete in the buttocks. Neither agent made any further effort to
apprehend him. After the shooting, they lied to their supervisors about the shooting, picked up
and threw away the fired shell casings and filed a false investigative report leaving out any
mention of the confrontation with Aldrete.”

As in any police force there are specific policies to follow in the event of a firearm being discharged. In this case they were supposed to have had at a minimum a commanding officer or sergeant visit the scene before doing anything else.

I was watching the news and they did a survey asking if you were for or against the commuted sentences. The results were 100% for. Most of those surveys you always have a few idiots vote the other way. But damn, this is the first one I seen that was 100 percent.

So there you go. They were dirty about it. They are going to end up serving 14 months and can never be cops or border patrol again, barring some sort of union deal. Sounds fair enough to me.
