I'm still trying to figure out how come the secret service didn't pounce on that fucker right away. I mean the guy threw two shoes at the President and I still didn't see anyone running to take him out. Thank god he wasn't shooting a gun or throwing knives.

BAGHDAD -- An Iraqi television reporter hurled two shoes at President Bush -- one after another -- as he held a news conference Sunday with Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

The president -- who dodged both shoes -- was not hurt during the incident.

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, however, was hit in the eye with a microphone as security guards scrambled to restrain the man, later identified as Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadiya television -- an Iraqi-owned station based in Cairo, Egypt.

As al-Zeidi threw the first shoe at Bush, he shouted, "This shoe is for goodbye!" He then yelled, "You dog. You killed Iraqis," as he was tackled to the ground.

Neither leader was hit. In Iraqi culture, throwing shoes at someone is a sign of contempt; Iraqis whacked a statue of Saddam Hussein with their shoes after U.S. Marines toppled it to the ground in 2003.

"All I can report," Bush joked of the incident, "is a size 10."

Al-Baghdadiya television later released a statement, demanding the immediate release of reporter Muntadar al-Zeidi, who was detained following the incident. The television network said al-Zeidi threw the shoes at Bush "in accordance with the new era of freedom of speech and democracy that the U.S has promised the Iraqi people."

Pretty good reflexes for an old guy. Would have been giggle inducing though if his "legacy" ended up being a loafer bouncing off his dome.

He's got the reflexes of a cat. I'm impressed.

However, I find it disturbing at the total lack of response by the secret service. That was a little bizarre to be quite honest.

Nobody reacted after the first shoe was thrown. And it was the Iraqi's that jumped the guy. Can anyone explain that?

I thought the SS was supposed to be ready to take a bullet for the President..

I expected to see one of the secret service guys jumping in front of G-dub and taking the shoe for him (in slow mo instant replay of course).

I was so dissapointed

Anyone else realize that if the same guy had thrown his shoes at Saddam he would have probably have been killed within minutes yet he thinks it is okay to throw them at the guy who made his journalist ass free to write stories and do things Saddam would never allow?

You guys wishing our President would get hit by shoes should be ashamed.

i'm with ya...i can't believe that he was actually able to get to the 2nd shoe before being slammed to the ground. the secret service guys looked like they didn't know what to do. bush did have some good reflexes, though. i replayed it a few times last night and couldn't believe how fast he moved...he must've played a lot of dodge ball as a kid or something.

Agreed

On a different note, apparently in Iraqi society having shoes thrown at you is a supreme insult...like being shot the bird here.

The lack of security was shocking...what if that had been a hand grenade?

The retired SS guy that commented last night said that journalists who have been through heavy security screenings are not thought of as a big threat, hence the slow response to get to the guy. It makes sense to me.

I don't know that much about their culture, but throwing shoes reminds me of what trailer park chicks do on the Springer show. LOL

Anyone know what that "insult" stems from? I can only imagine where it comes from knowing that they wipe their ass with their left hand. LOL

They explained that on ABC news last night. They showed footage of Iraqis beating statues of Sadam Hussein with their shoes after US Forces took over. It's a huge insult in thier culture.

Yes, it is interesting to see folks who a year ago were Bush supporters, now jumping on the Bush bashing wagon. Bush is though, move forward. I didn't like Bush's policies, but I respected him as a man, who wasn't afraid to do what he thought was right (even if he was in error). Bush was steadfast, reliable and loved his country, if nothing else.

This is how the bail out works

How the bail out works:

Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a Donkey from a farmer for $100.00. The farmer agreed to deliver the Donkey the next day.

The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad News, the donkey died.'
Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.'
The farmer said, 'Can't do that.. I went and spent it already.'
Chuck said, 'Ok, then, just bring me the dead donkey.'
The farmer asked,'What ya gonna do with him? Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off..'

The farmer said "you can't raffle off a dead donkey!" Chuck said, "Sure I can Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey? 'Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $998. 'The farmer said, "Didn't anyone complain? Chuck said, "Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back".

Chuck now works for the Federal Reserve.

Afterward, Bush gave an interview to Martha Raddatz, where he said this:

Bush: This [Iraq] is where Al Qaeda was hoping to take …

Raddatz: But not until after the U.S. invaded.

Bush: Yeah, that’s right. So what?

That being said... he just admitted that al Qaeda was in Iraq, because we're still there. When the reporter hurled his 2nd shoe, he said "this is for the widows..." etc. He wasn't talking about any innocents we might've killed, directly. But if al Qaeda has killed any innocents in their country in the last 3 years, in their mind, it's partly our fault. It's easy to not look at it from their point of view and yell "towel heads!". But another thing all together to have an understanding of their feelings toward the matter.

That reporter was expressing a view that a lot of Iraqi's hold, and we'll see this demonstrated with marches, protests, etc. in the next few days.

If this happens to Obama it will be classified as a hate crime!

That being said... he just admitted that al Qaeda was in Iraq, because we're still there. When the reporter hurled his 2nd shoe, he said "this is for the widows..." etc. He wasn't talking about any innocents we might've killed, directly. How many Iraqi's have you spoken with to say that a lot of Iraqi's hold your view of your country and Bush?

BTW, if we weren't fighting Al Quaeda in Iraq, where would they be? Maybe planning attacks on us from a country that would harbor them? Nah, no country would do that, right?

Maybe you should watch closer. When I saw it on the news I saw quite a few of the other IRAQI reporters tackle the guy throwing the shoes.

If you read between the lines gpamp is saying that he agrees with this one idiot and therefore there are alot of people that agree with him. He does not know how extreme his views of America are. He also thinks a 30% approval rating for Bush equates to 70% deep hate like he has. He is such a funny little guy!

Mostly because there have already been marches and protests on his behalf.

They were in Afgahnistan. We should've fought them there. By focusing on Iraq, based on bad intelligence that the rest of the world was screaming "this is bad intelligence", we lured Al Qaeda into Iraq, where suicide blasts are now frequent. It would be like sending 2 pit bulls over to your grandmas house and letting them fight in her living room without her permission. Then thinking she's an idiot for being mad at you for messing her living room up and killing her cat.
