Japanís Economy Shrank 1.8% Last Quarter

ďGlobal demand is now weakening across the board so intensely; this is something different from previous recessions,Ē said Tomoko Fujii, head of economics and strategy at Bank of America Corp. in Tokyo.

Isn't deflation a biotch? K-winter is here, no doubt about it.

My inlaws are sucking wind right now.

My Father and Mother in laws house in Hadano, Japan has decreased in value by about half since they bought it. Unlike many American's, most Japanese kept their houses and paid them off (my In laws house will finally be paid off next year). My Mother In law retired last year because of health reasons (and she was already 65) but my Father In law is still working as a forklift driver. If he gets laid off, their fucked...

My Sister in Law's husband is an exec for a Japanese oil company. They just announced a merger with another company last week. There are going to be job cuts but he doesn't know if it will affect him or not. He might be ok because he is heading up the companies "green" initiatives. Green is really big in Japan these days, so he might be safe...

I feel rather fortunate these days. My company is cutting about 25000 jobs but my group is still considered undersized. We are surpassing all of our revenue targets and I just got attached to a project that will keep me billable for the next two years. I'm already billing about 60 hours a week. Good thing too. It would really suck for me to lose my job in the next year because of our surrogate pregnancy plans in India..
