Anyone still talk investments in here?

Bored, studied for finals all day. Learned some pretty cool shit regarding portfolio theory over the last couple months. I'm hardly on the board anymore, but I haven't seen anything from 01WC lately.

If you're familiar with efficient frontiers and such, it's a way to turbocharge the Markowitz efficient frontier via futures or leap options.

Ha! Yeah, but there's a way to still participate in the markets while knowing your downside risk to the dollar. Not some, "Do you want to take on 20%, 15%, etc, risk,"... to the dollar. You can do this by juicing the upside return while keeping however much you want to in TIPS.

I hadn't thought of that. Right now, all my ideas are theoretical, though, as I only have a few grand saved up.

Read the post above this one I put. Wait, actually, the at the money leap option on the S&P I saw the other day was $14...so $1400 for a contract. If that's a significant portion of your available funds, probably not worth discussing.

It's all in a savings account, but I plan on saving up for another year before I start making any moves. I will probably be moving out of Stephenville by the summer, and I don't want to put anything on credit cards I don't have to.

IMO invest in companies that have held up to this financial turmoil. If a companies stock can make it through these hard times they are probably worth investing in

I've got a Kia I've been eye-balling, it seems as sound of an investment as any of the blue chips these days.

I could be wrong but I think Ford will be the one (one of them anyway) to watch. I bought 1k shares @ 1.90 and last I checked today it was at 3.60. Nothing to get excited about just yet but I can hope.

I'm not sure why you would want to talk about investments on this board. If you read some of the threads here, the world is ending.

The only thing I have for you is that the REITs are still oversold, even with the bump from yesterday. A lot of these companies have fantastic in place cash flow. They were shorted by the hedge funds because of rolling debt or because of development deals or just because it was the "in" thing to do. Of course the hedge funds didn't realize that the banks don't want to be landlords. Sure, there are some properties for sale but there is no fire sale and there won't be one.

Yes, i saw them. I almost bought DRYS again at $4. Kicking myself at the moment. It would have been an easy jackpot.

And yes, CBRE was hired by the government. It may be the only thing that keeps them afloat. Transactions are down over 70% and their brokers are starving. They beg us to buy every deal while begging the sellers to sell.

I saw an article a while back about how just the value of their fleet was more than their stock price. That sounds great on paper but if shipping rates stay really low then the value of the ships has got to come down. I have no idea if they can survive in the long run. I wouldn't buy them for any sort of long term old, only a very short pop.

PLD comes out today and offers to buy its debt back from the market. They are going to try to fuck the shorts I guess. The REITs have been oversold for a long time, recently having 5-6X their historical short positions. Its funny that some people correlate a low stock price with a lack of cash flow. These guys have cash flow out the ass and you'd think the smart people in a short position would have seen something like this coming.
