It was inevitable. They have been in the red for a while and the economic crisis has killed them. They are still the No.2 electronics retailer and they might be making some really good deals for the Christmas shopping season.

However, I think there will not be a great deal of consumer confidence in Circuit City. They are really going to have the sell themselves and find a way to somehow guarantee their warranty plans. People are going to be timid about buying a $2,000 TV w/warranty from a company that just closed 155 stores and filed chapter 11.

I must say that their stores and customer services are lacking in all dept.'s. I've experienced items not being in stock after they told me on the phone they were at the store. I've had rep.'s be sarcastic towards me and demonstrate a complete lack of knowledge about the products they are selling. The store in Lewisville is usually under staffed, and if you had a question you would have to walk to the customer service desk. If you talk to any ex-employee they usually will be the first to tell you how much Circuit City sucks.

The manufacturer is who the warranty is through, not the store. As for extended warranties those are underwritten by another company and administrated by a third party (Assurant Solutions I think). As long as they are in still in business the warranty is still enforceable and if they go belly up then the underwriter is responsible.

Yeah, I'll agree... who gives a rat's ass?

Poor customer service as a rule has kept me outta' CC since they first opened the doors in DFW.

Don't let the door hit 'em in the ass on the way out.

Makes no difference. The average consumer will be skeptical about making a high dollar purchase at Circuit City after filing Ch. 11. The average person isn't going to understand the esoteric aspects of warranty service. They are just going to see a risk.

I bet you anything that the amount of extended warranties will fall off significantly. A probably gift cards will take a hit as well. It will be interesting to see how they do on black Friday.

Im wondering what will happen with the company...I doubt they will completely go under, much like other companies (Bear Sterns). Almost thought about buying stock..hell, its only $.11/share

Hopefully they have some deals on Black Friday. Maybe this will thin the line.
