Texas $10-15billion surplus

Quote:
In the time that Craddick has been in control of the Texas House, we have gone from a budget deficit of $10 billion to an estimated surplus of $10-15 billion without a net tax increase. According to the comptroller, the total gross state product has grown by more than 48 percent since the beginning of 2003 to a staggering $1.2 trillion. To put this in perspective, if Texas were a country it would have the 10th largest economy in the world as measured by GDP.

Seeing how Texas has a big surplus and other states do not, do you think Obama will spread the wealth around from our state?

It must be because Texas is 99% Democratic, ya that's the "ticket".

I think Texas will have to send 90% of it's profits to the great state of
Mass-A-Shoot-It.
After all, they deserve it more than Texas.

he'll probably try to give it to california, since that's about the amount of their deficit.

He would need the authority to acquire and distribute that surplus. That would require a constitutional amendment. There is nothing there that grants that power to the Federal government.

I agree, but failing that, they should at least raise the gas tax by 5 to 10 cents. That would take care of everything. I don't like paying higher taxes but that small tax would pay huge dividends down the road....

What are they saving it for? With a $15 billion surplus just fix and build the fuckin roads already. Perry gets enough from me alone on cigs "sinners tax" to build a super highway. Stop taxing me and still making me pay by the mile and gallon. Spend what's already there and stop trying to find a way to steal it. Not that Perry and our state guv would be corrupt...

Talk is cheap because supply exceeds demand!

So what was the extra desiel tax for? Remember that day when it was a good dollar cheaper than regular unleaded? Now its a good dollar higher than super unleaded. Where did that money go to?

They have plenty of programs that the surplus could go to, but choose not to apply it. TPWD is one of those programs that need the funding badly.

Newbies, please watch THIS before posting.

Diesel didn't become more expensive because of taxes. It became more expensive because of the new federal rules for low sulfur diesel.

You see, the feds implemented that rule but never required that refineries actually make it. So the refineries had a choice between spending millions upgrading their facilities to produce low sulfur diesel or not making any for the US market. The VAST majority of them decided to not produce ANY diesel for the US market. Instead they continued to produce the regular diesel they've always made and sold it to China and other countries where there is no requirement for low sulfur diesel.

So where do we get our diesel now? Europe. They already made low sulfur diesel. However their supplies are tight because they have to make it for themselves as well. That drove up the price.

THAT is why Diesel is more expensive. Plain and simple, it is stupid government regulation.
