Obama may have chance to pick two Supreme Court justices

Icing on the cake:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20081106.../usvotejustice

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AFP) – President-elect Barack Obama may have the rare chance to appoint two judges to the Supreme Court, giving the former law professor an opportunity to make a further lasting mark on American society. Already observers are weighing in on what Obama could do in the key decision on replacements for the highest court in the land. "It is quite likely he would choose a woman or a minority," said Nathaniel Persily, a law professor at Columbia University in New York. "If he could find a Hispanic woman, that would be ideal, the best choice," he added.

This has been the conventional wisdom on the Hillary buyout.

Hillary Clinton, supreme court justice.

Has a definite ring to it. Or a definite smell at least.

The National Socialist Party could overturn the 2nd Amendment in no time with that kind of change.

I've been saying since I got on here the next Pres would probably make two appointments (definitely if he serves 2 terms) But relax both SC Justices that are expected to retire are the 'liberal activist judges' Stevens and Ginsburg. The SC will still be 5-4 conservative with Kennedy being the swing voter.

That is if two conservative judges were replaced. The oldest two judges on the court are very liberal. Balance would likely be maintained.

The real problem would be if one of the younger conservatives stepped down or died.

Even though I made a joke about it, the death of one of the conservatives is what you have to worry about.

Scalia is not young. Hell, all of them are older than I expect to live.

Not really. I like the court about where it is now. I said before, if McCain won, I'd want him to keep the 5-4 balance on the court if a lib stepped down and I wont change my tune since Obama won. A 5-4 conservative majority is where I like it.

Same here. I like a balance of power in all areas. You got to keep the bastards fighting each other so they don't declare war on the peasantry.

Don't forget David Souter, he's getting in on up there in years and not in the best health. I look for at least two to announce their retirement early next year. Let the bickering begin in the Senate.

I don't think you'll see much bickering. I'm expecting the Senate Republican's to be mostly spineless. McCain will help break up any filibuster if it serves his purposes.

LOL Because she's been a key judicial presence over the past twenty years, right?

And that would matter for what reason? You don't have to be, or have been, a judge to get on the Supreme court. Earl Warren, One of the most noted Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, never served as a judge. He was Governor of California and its District Attorney before that.

I'm not saying that I would like Clinton there (oh hell no) I'm just saying that it can be done.
