Shh. Wait until the wall's finished first, and when they ask why it continues up the New Mexico border, just change the subject.

Dump all the prisoners locked up in Texas on Louisiana, deport all the illegals to Arkansas, annex New Mexico, and show our generosity by donating Oklahoma to the U.S.

How cool would it be to be our own Nation?

This is of course ignoring the lack of a stable currency, the lack of an armed militia, or the resulting counter-attack from the United States. Setting up a breakaway government in today's political and economic climate would be damned near impossible.

But it would be cool. For a day or two.

Q: Doesn’t the Texas Constitution reserve the right of Texas to secede?
A:
No such provision is found in the current Texas Constitution[1](adopted in 1876) or the terms of annexation.[2] However, it does state (in Article 1, Section 1) that “Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States...” (note that it does not state “...subject to the President of the United States...” or “...subject to the Congress of the United States...” or “...subject to the rest of the United States...”)

Neither the Texas Constitution, nor the Constitution of the united States, explicitly or implicitly disallows the secession of Texas (or any other “free and independent State”) from the United States. Joining the “Union” was ever and always voluntary, rendering voluntary withdrawal an equally lawful and viable option (regardless of what any self-appointed academic, media, or government “experts”—including Abraham Lincoln himself—may have ever said).

nah that's easy just use the massive amounts of reserves and national guard to quickly capture all the hundreds of thousands of active members before they know what happened. Then just trade em back to America for peace.

Why don't we just give ourselves back to Mexico? All the hardworking, industrous Mexicans are already here, and we'll have an endless supply of pretty, young, sluts! And tamales!

Ireland did it

Hell the US did it too. We solved the currency problem pretty quickly and in crunch time, an armed militia assembled pretty darn quickly.

Sure it would be harder, but occupation is impossible and has proven as such time and time again. Now would I be for Texas breaking away? Hell no, but it would be interesting to see such an occurrence in the western world today.

I'm telling ya'll with the mass amount of military trained texans, all you would have to do is cut off and contain the active forces here. Fort Hood etc, then just trade them back in exchange for freedom and peace.

I have a question. If you were able to own some land on texas public property, and build a home, would you still be subject to federal law?

How are you going to own public property? If it were possible then unless it was on an Indian reservation or inside a foreign embassy (there aren't any in Texas) then yes you'd be subject to federal law.

I'm just curious. In the annexation of texas, there were 2 provisions. One of them is Texas would give up all land to the fed. gov't except for public lands. Back then, after parts of texas became colorado, new mexico, oklahoma and wyoming, public lands equalled close to 220 million acres. Part of that they sold to the fed gov't to clear debt. The rest they gave away to settlers due to settlers not buying. lol But just curious is all.

And just an fyi, we (texas) has both foreign embassys (mexican consulate is on i 35) and indian reservations.

Well, half of the Marine Corps is from Texas. I know that'll be enough to hold ground for a while. I'd be on my way back to the great state as soon as I heard the news.

Except for ending slavery, fascism, nazism and communism… War hasn’t solved anything.

theres an entire marine air group of reservist from tejas, a marine infantry reg, a chunk of marine arty reg, a recon company, at btn. And then you have all the national gaurd infantry.

If it was planned and thought out, it might be enough to contain the active duty units already within Texas.

I actually researched this a few years ago. If Texas were it's own nation, from day one we would have the 16th largest GDP on Earth. We have all key industries here, oil & gas, auto manufacturers, aerospace manufacturers, farming, ranching, and shipping ports.
