Hmmm... imagine that Al Gore

Quote:
Scientists at MIT have recorded a nearly simultaneous world-wide increase in methane levels. This is the first increase in ten years, and what baffles science is that this data contradicts theories stating man is the primary source of increase for this greenhouse gas. It takes about one full year for gases generated in the highly industrial northern hemisphere to cycle through and reach the southern hemisphere. However, since all worldwide levels rose simultaneously throughout the same year, it is now believed this may be part of a natural cycle in mother nature - and not the direct result of man's contributions.

I remember 15 years ago growing up a kid all we ever heard about was holes in the Ozone. Scientist claimed Man Kind was causing these holes and they would destroy our planet. Gee what ever happend to those claims.

I've got 2lbs of New York Strip Steaks marinating and they are going to be thrown on the grill in less than an hour. I'm doing my part to help our planet.

If?! WTF are we going to do without this board? I mean, we are facing some issues now, but nothing as serious as a dfwstangs shut down. Let's hope the Mayans were right.

The changing frequency of geomagnetic reversals over time

The rate of reversals in the Earth's magnetic field has varied widely over time. 72 million years ago (Ma), the field reversed 5 times in a million years. In a 4-million-year period centered on 54 Ma, there were 10 reversals; at around 42 Ma, 17 reversals took place in the span of 3 million years. In a period of 3 million years centering on 24 Ma, 13 reversals occurred. No less than 51 reversals occurred in a 12-million-year period, centering on 15 million years ago. These eras of frequent reversals have been counterbalanced by a few "superchrons" -- long periods when no reversals took place, as described below.[5]

It had generally been assumed that the frequency of geomagnetic reversals is random, and it was shown in 2006 that the known reversals conform to a Lévy distribution.
