Woops: McCain Funded Rashid Khalidi

Wingnuttia is all ablaze with this story:

John McCain's presidential campaign Tuesday accused the Los Angeles Times of "intentionally suppressing" a videotape it obtained of a 2003 banquet where then-state Sen. Barack Obama spoke of his friendship with Rashid Khalidi, a leading Palestinian scholar and activist.

I guess some are tempted to file this under the category of "October surprise," a blockbuster the McCain campaign tucked away for a rainy day:

"A major news organization is intentionally suppressing information that could provide a clearer link between Barack Obama and Rashid Khalidi," said McCain campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb. " . . . The election is one week away, and it's unfortunate that the press so obviously favors Barack Obama that this campaign must publicly request that the Los Angeles Times do its job -- make information public."

Poor Goldfarb. Unleashed on campaign stooge duty once again. From the Huffington Post:

McCain Funded Work Of Palestinian His Campaign Hopes To Tie To Obama

During the 1990s, while he served as chairman of the International Republican Institute (IRI), McCain distributed several grants to the Palestinian research center co-founded by Khalidi, including one worth half a million dollars.

A 1998 tax filing for the McCain-led group shows a $448,873 grant to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies for work in the West Bank. (See grant number 5180, "West Bank: CPRS" on page 14 of this PDF.)

The relationship extends back as far as 1993, when John McCain joined IRI as chairman in January. Foreign Affairs noted in September of that year that IRI had helped fund several extensive studies in Palestine run by Khalidi's group, including over 30 public opinion polls and a study of "sociopolitical attitudes."

It's a sign of last-minute desperation that the McCain campaign had to launch an attack that was so weak and easily refuted. Bet they kept a few things back from the wingnuts when they launched them into hyper-screech?

So... John McCain not only pals around with, but funds Pakistani activists? How does that work out?

People seem to not care if Obama is friends with them so why do you care if McCain is?

Let's see. So-

McCain chaired a research institute devoted to gathering intelligence from around the world.

This IRI entity funded a research campaign within a political hotbed that we need to keep an eye on - Palestine.

The money went to the "Center for Palestine Research and Studies", an organization we entrusted to provide us with information.

This organization had - at some level - a professor named Khalidi within it. Who knows what level of involvement the guy had within the organization, the article doesn't say.

--------------------------

That is a FAR CRY from being a longtime friend of the guy. No matter how deep the connection here, it sounds like Obama spends a lot of time palling around with anti-American / anti-Israel / pro-Socialist / pro-Marxist professors. I don't trust those bastards one bit. Thanks for reviving another reason I won't be voting for Obama.

-----------------------

Oh, and I love how it is "McCain distributed several grants" ... "to Khalidi's Center for Palestine Research and Studies". Nice effective way of tying them to each other, when there is not even an inference of them having ever met.

Sounds like mccain was chairman of the group who funded polls, not a specific terrorist. On the other hand, if what was reported to be on the tape that the la times won't release, it shows obama at what basicly becomes a anti-israel luncheon. Besides that, isn't it funny that Obama has been dealing with shady characters, on multiple occasions, and even had a known offical spokesman for the PLO babysitting his kids? Must of been pretty recent as his kids don't look much older than 8.

Newbies, please watch THIS before posting.

Haha. According to who? Oh... wait... I found it.

http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10...ccain-narrows/

A Fox News poll. I bet a lot of Democrats take part in that.

This one's more recent, by a few minutes.

http://www.reuters.com/article/vcCan...50447220081030

And it has Obama up by 7.

Most political strategists will tell you that if Obama doesn't go into election day with a double digit lead he probably won't win. The polls don't reflect the thousands of Americans that will have a gut check when they step inside the voting booth.

Let me see if I understand this...

1. Obama served on two boards working with a terrorist.
2. McCain served on one board that funded an activist.

Which one is worse?

When did Watergate become a terrorist activity? It pretty much boils down to breaking and entering if I understand everything correctly. Funded? really... 5k pales in comparison to a lot of the shady fucks that Obama has had funding him.

You didn't answer the question, which one is worse?

As for G. Gordon... I like him, he took his lumps and did his time for being a criminal... actually, didn't he get pardoned by Carter?

I don't really consider him a terrorist, he was a political hit man who got busted for burglary and wiretapping...

Tampering with the democratic process... terrorism. And you're forgetting when he suggested the Branch Davidians kill ATF agents, and told them how.

I'd say that's worse.

Hell if thats all it takes to qualify as a terrorist, you better add CNN, MSBNC, FOX, ACORN, etc... all those fuggers are tampering with the democratic process...

For that matter, you can add McCain and Obama... they tamper with the process eveytime they tell a lie...

That would be a long ass list...

I was listening to him when he gave that broadcast... I agree with him... why do you think we practice killing zombies...
