As a war orphan that was educated by the government because my father was killed in action in WWII, I have a concern when a candidate lies about helping veterans.
In the first debate with Barack Obama, John McCain said, “I love them (veterans) and I will take care of them, and they know that I’ll take care of them.”
The Congressional Record tells another story.
Over and over during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, McCain has voted to deny increased funding for veteran’s health care. McCain voted to outsource Veteran’s Administration jobs and jobs at Walter Reed Army Medical Center which contributed to the scandalous breakdown of health care.
Also, McCain was critical of the 21st Century GI bill, co-sponsored by Obama and then ducked the vote in favor of a fundraiser in Hollywood.
The list goes on and on. McCain should be thanked for his military service, but right now the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan gave him a “D” for his support.
His disservice to them is unforgivable.
