Putting gpamp aside, Cavuto hits the nail on the head, not only for McCain but for most of the Republican's in Congress. IMO this is one of the biggest reasons that Republicans are no longer in control of either house.
The Republican party is supposed to be the party of small government, lower taxes, and lower spending. So far they are only one for three. Our government had done nothing but get bigger under every Republican President after WWII. Some of that growth was good such as highway construction under Eisenhower but a lot of it was not needed and frankly smacked of liberal big government. Even Ronald Reagan is guilty of this and I'm not talking about defense. What is worse is that the only time our government has gotten smaller since WWII is when Bill Clinton got into office though I'll grant that he would have never gotten it done without the Republicans that controlled the House.
On spending, we've all heard the rhetoric that the formerly Republican congress has been spending like drunken sailors. Well, they have and it is, in part, what cost many of them their congressional seats. We've all heard the term Republicrats. That is what we had through most of the Bush years and that is what he still have a lot of in this Congress. People are saying that conservatism is dead. Well it isn't. Conservatism is alive and well, it is the Republican party that is dying because they have been abandoning it. If Republicans are going to do that, then why bother voting for them. Democrats are going to do the same thing but at least, for the most part, they pretty much say they are going to do it.
