I think Denny's assessment is right on the money.
Indigenous people of the region will most likely embrace him because they see him as being like minded and will be the savior that ends the perceived American tyranny. In terms of visiting an American military base, I see that has about the same as Hillary Clinton having lunch with Monica Lewinsky. A bit awkward I would imagine.
He knows he's persona non grata on an American military base. However, I think this trip is primarily in response to McCain's criticism about not visiting abroad. I'm not real sure what tangible results will be accomplished. I think it's a glorified photo op that his staff feel is necessary at this stage in the game. I bet you dollars to donuts that Obama personally does not feel comfortable about this middle-east tour.
I don't see him being harmed as a possibility given the security measures that will be in place. I would imagine that middle-eastern countries with antipathy towards the USA would be salivating over a radical leftist Democrat, with Arab lineage, becoming President. It would be in the best interest of any country that has hostility towards American interest abroad to fully support Obama.
