Minnersoter Muslim PS and religious teachings..

The school is supported by Minnesota taxpayers which most likely would include federal funds as well. I would like to see a Christian based school get away with this!

Quote:
Until recently, TIZA's website included a request for volunteers to help with "Friday prayers." In an e-mail, Zaman explained this as an attempt to ensure that "no TIZA staff members were involved in organizing the Friday prayers."

But an end run of this kind cannot remove the fact of school sponsorship of prayer services, which take place in the school building during school hours. Zaman does not deny that "some" Muslim teachers "probably" attend. According to federal guidelines on prayer in schools, teachers at a public school cannot participate in prayer with students.

In addition, schools cannot favor one religion by offering services for only its adherents, or promote after-school religious instruction for only one group. The ACLU of Minnesota has launched an investigation of TIZA, and the Minnesota Department of Education has also begun a review.

TIZA's operation as a public, taxpayer-funded school is troubling on several fronts. TIZA is skirting the law by operating what is essentially an Islamic school at taxpayer expense. The Department of Education has failed to provide the oversight necessary to catch these illegalities, and appears to lack the tools to do so. In addition, there's a double standard at work here -- if TIZA were a Christian school, it would likely be gone in a heartbeat.

TIZA is now being held up as a national model for a new kind of charter school. If it passes legal muster, Minnesota taxpayers may soon find themselves footing the bill for a separate system of education for Muslims.

fuck a whole bunch of that.

i don't what religion it is, if a school is financed by taxpayer dollars, there should be zero religious influence of any sort, much less blatent religious discrimination.

however, it is nice to see the ACLU (granted it's the Minn. ACLU, not on a nat'l level) doing something productive.

This is going to be interesting.

I've been waiting for the two out of control liberal trains, "You can't defame Muslims because they are people too" and "no religion in school whatsoever" to collide for a while now. They've been steaming together at full speed towards each other on the same track for a few years now.

On top of that, the ACLU appears to be shoveling the coal into the burner on at least one of the trains.

State law requires the school to fly an American flag during school hours, however no flag flies outside of TIZA Academy.

Zaman told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS he didn’t know how to work the flagpole.

Yep, it was bound to happen. The libs have already locked horns with tree hugging and enviro-nazi's disagreeing about trees and solar panels. This will continue until the extremist liberals realize how extreme they really are.

Just food for thought...

The "Seperation of Church and State" is not about keeping religion of out government and/or publically funded organizations, rather to keep the government from influencing the people's religion.

I do, however have a problem with only certain religions receiving funding that other religions don't get. Especially ones who don't adhere to normal policies (like flying the flag, etc). This really has the makings for a good fight, though. Maybe the ACLU and Muslims will go at it and both will come out looking like total asshats.
