WTF? It was around $100.30 this morning

Bush needs to sign an executive order forcing 1 blend of each grade (87, 89, 91 etc) nationwide and 50 more refineries to be built over night.

With the glut of oil we have right now, there is no reason for prices to be this high.

Fuck the environment, gimme $1.25/gal fuel again.

Bush isn't making money off of oil prices. OPEC and the oil companies are making money off of oil prices.

Hell it's already close to $3.70/gallon here in central California (the price gouging mother fuckers are right at $4.00), fuck this shit. Luckily, school/my boss, is paying for my milage at $0.50/mile on my car when I travel.

I'm not so concerned as to what I'm personally paying at the pump, I'm more concerned about the prices I will be paying for goods that are transported long distances with the rising cost of fuel.

A $.20/gallon increase means I may pay $3-4 more each time I fill up (17ish gallon tank). If your budget can't support a possible $10-20 extra per month then you have other things to be looking at.

For people like you, that could be a true statement. I drive 3K a month so that number has a little bit larger an impact. As it does for thousands of others. Not everyone has a job that doesn't require many miles...

Opec decided to not increase oil production...because they can't. They are producing about as much as they can right now. The refining company my wife works for, is right at 110% of production (mainly diesel and jet fuel, but some gas). I haven't been on a bike for 20 years, but it's looking pretty damn good, right now.

Yep, it hits the people that drive a lot really hard. At one point we were spending $700/month on just gas.

I average about 6500 miles per month, if I'm not traveling.
So say with mixed towing and empty driving, I avg. 15mpg. That is 433.33 gallons of fuel a month. Which works out at $3.659 to $1585.55/month.
At $3.459/gal the cost is $1498.89, compared to $1.659 when I first started this company which was $718.89.

Dammit, that is my vette payment

Oh I know there are exceptions to this rule and fully understand that. My point is the average American drives half of what you may drive. That's what I am getting at with the whole cost of goods thing. Most people who rely heavily on driving for work often pass the cost down to the consumer to which they provide a service.

This thread being in this forum will get a much different response than the Back Porch for instance. Remember, most of this site makes 6 figures and has no debt, yet will all say they can no longer afford gas if it goes up more.

That doesn't include the fuel that she manages to use as a stay at home mom.
That's another $250-300....for staying home....

I wouldn't mind her fucking someone else, as long as he chipped in to the general fund.

How about pricing the gas according to ambient temperatures at the pump? The temperature affects the density of the fuel pretty drastically, and it's priced accordingly at every other level of sale. We pay for it as though it's 60 degrees outside in the middle of 100 degree weather every summer. If we're going to pay this much, why not get the most out of it?

Give me a dollar.

And those are valid points, no doubt. Sadly, this debate will likely stand as good a chance at a happy resolution as the plane/treadmill...
