Oil back to $100 a barrel again

Somehow I have the feeling that it won't stop there this time.

Will be interesting to watch it play out over the next month. Speculators betting on the summertime driving, stockpiles growing, economy tanking. OPEC looking to cut output but everyone downgrading demand forecasts.

Could go either way but I'll bet the speculators drive it up to 150.

I wouldn't doubt for a minute that it goes to $120 by summer.

There is no way that demand won't decline when gas gets high. The imminent explosion is what I am waiting for. A loss of oil field jobs, like in the 1980s would be terrible for the local economy.

Is there a different trend than in previous years where summer time driving has gone through the roof, or is this just a pattern we have seen for the last 50 years and overall demand is forcing the price up?

I still think that even if we cut back on usage in the US the oil will only go to other countries that won't curtail use and we are still fucked.

$4/$5 a gallon gas will send shockwaves thru the US economy, especially when people with full size SUVs realize it is going to cost them $140 a week to keep it full of gas. And the truckers will be happy with fillups costing them $1600.

Exactly. There is a point where demand starts to go down. We already hit that point for a month or two in the last cycle of high gas prices. I wouldn't think it would happen but it did. $4 would be a huge blow to a lot of wallets out there.

yeah, I am sitting here running a spread sheet to see if buying a nissan Versa or something similar would end up just paying the car payment so that I have something left over instead of just pissing the fuel into the air with my truck. so far it looks like it would save me about $153 in fuel, but the payments are in the $300 range. guess the market for used POS cars is going to start getting better....especially the crappy 4cyl ones. Who needs A/C anyway right?!

That doesn't work. Basic economics dictates that you will run out of supply if you cap the price. They did it in Hawaii and guess what happened?

They did that in the 70's, too...

I'm looking forward to seeing how my grocery bill goes up if oil hits the $120 area.

I'm just wondering how high gas prices will be this summer. I was planning a nice road trip with my family and with my titan getting around 13mpg unloaded I'm scared to see what I'll get with my truck loaded and towing a load.

I was at an energy conference today at college, presented by Dr Stephen Brown of the Federal Reserve bank of Dallas. He said they expect gasoline to go to $3.30 this summer. Even though oil would go up, he said gasoline would not rise as fast as oil because of high inventories.

Remember the good ole' days when Nissan and Toyota manufactured nothing but fuel-efficient vehicles?

You will literally have to pour gas into the tank while driving to keep the truck movin'

Nissan bites the big one! We have a guy in our race group with an 08 Dodge with the Hemi and MDS. he was extatic about getting 12.5mpg while towing his race car and gear at 75mph. We thought he was full of shit but he showed us the fill up tickets and the mileage and we were all VERY impressed considering our diesels were getting 10 or less with a load.
