If you don't study hard you end up in Iraq

I am sure this is kind of like a QOTD but Kerry really shoved his foot in his mouth with this one. He has also said that he will not apologize for his comment.

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework, you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.” - Sen. John Kerry

Here he is on film

So, FUCK YOU SENATOR KERRY.

I don't necessarily agree 100% with that comment, but agree that most of the military is comprised of people from the lower income brackets and people looking for a free ride.

No, but I know the truth of the matter is what I stated.

Most people join the military to get their 4 years and qualify for the Montgomery G.I.

The people who would do that are typically the ones from lower income families.

There may be a few West Point grads that have different views on the subject.

And probably many, many more people as well.

You just can't go around spouting that shit. What a dumbass...

You might want to check your "facts" before you call them "truth". I have served with every type of person from every walk of life and found no correlation between joining and social/financial status. Here is an article for ya that proves out that fact using Census data.

I don't think being shot at is a free ride...
It's a risk someone is taking to make their life better in the long run.

Why the decline in military recruting during times of war then?

Maybe in peace time your comment might have some validity. It's the #1 selling point recruiters hit me with out of high school. Now though when you know there is a damned good chance of being deployed I think most of the people signing up are doing it for the love of their country and wanting to help out however they can.

Lower income families get grants anyways if the kids do well enough in school, no need to serve if they want a free education.

OK LOL on hunky-dorey. And no, I know of people getting put out because they were unable to get promoted. We are in no shortage of veterans OR recuits. Your a smart guy hit the google and read up. CNN only provides enough into to support their view of the situation. I bring them up because they are the worst but ALL new sources skew the information. Look for studies and non spin BS press releases, they hold the truth and back it with numbers.

They had virtually identical grades at Yale but Kerry's strong classes were French and political science. Bush's strongest classes were anthropology, history and philosophy.

Doing well in college doesn't necessarily mean you'll be a great leader. Bill Clinton has degrees from Georgetown and Oxford after all. Jimmy Carter was a nuclear physicist and has a bachelors degree from the Naval Academy and Richard Nixon graduated 3rd in his class from Duke. On the other end Abraham Lincoln was self educated and FDR dropped out of Columbia after two years.

However, Kerry got lower grades than bush in college. Ouch. I guess that's the rationale for Bush getting to fly jets in Texas ANG while Kerry got to play motorboat * (Im being sarcastic here, not to imply anything about the BWN)

Very misinformed view. I was in the military and was neither.

You may want to revisit your thought processes since you are way in line with what the far left would want you to think. Then again, that may not be a problem for you.

I doubt many liberals can comprehend that thought process. I agree with it completely. Hell, even Cindy Sheehan's son understood it while she does not.

I just hate it that he'll puss out and start apologizing all over himself. He's already saying something like "he botched the joke..." There for a minute I thought somebody was gonna actually stand and clearly proclaim what fuckups Bush et al actually are. Oh well..back to the sheep pen.

I'm suprised at some of you guys, eventhough I know I really shouldn't be.
I'm surprised to hear that some of you think the military is a free ride. For one to make that statement at a time of war, he has to be calous, non-thinking and talking out his ass! The military isn't a "Free Ride" even in peace time! That just goes to show ya the mindset of sone that haven't been through something, but they know the truth about it. People like that wouldn't know the truth if it slapped them in the face! It's a crying shame that there are quite a few people in this country with that misguided mindset.

Going to Iraq was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Some of the smartest people I've ever met were in Iraq (both civilian and military).

I've never met anyone who got a free ride out there (except me )

Once again, John Fitzgerald Kerry has shit in his own nest. He did it in '71, in 2004, and now in '06. He's Ted Kennedy with a Purple Heart. At least Ted had the sense to drown his girlfriend, and now "Lurch" is stuck with "Morticia". They truly deserve each other. Two miserable human beings who have none of their own ideas or solutions, but instead attack the very fabric of this country, especially during war-time.

My son is just now getting out of the Army. He has been to Iraq 3 times. Got married on his 1st return while on 6 month leave. I honestly believe that he just didn't know exactly what he wanted to do with his future just out of high school. He had a free ride to UT because I work there, but he didn't want to waste our taxpaying money on something he wasn't sure about. He also had a best friend die in a car accident his senior year in high school. He just needed time to plan his future. His wife will be finishing nursing school in May and he will most likely go back to school. They will have a better future because of the maturity the Army has given both of them.

Both Kerry and Bush went to and graduated from Yale. Bush even stayed to get an MBA...so he has a degree further than Kerry.

I don't necessarily agree 100% with that comment, but agree that most of the military is comprised of people from the lower income brackets and people looking for a free ride.
you are kidding me right???? you are making the military sound like the prison system. ill have you know i wasnt looking for a free ride when i signed on the dotted line, and i am also not uneducated. another thing one of my buddies quit a professional football career to serve cause he though like most of us that it was the right thing to do. some people serve only to give back to the families of those that have served before, and the security that those coming after them can make that decision on their own. I understand that maybe you didnt mean for your comment to come out sounding like that, but people that have given up time away from their family will take offense to people talking down about them. True there are some people looking for a free ride, but 90% went because it was the right thing to do.

I know a few people have replied to your idiotic statement but I must say something.
I served... 11b (infantry if you didnt know) and I came froma nice middle income family. Well educated... hell I had scholarship offers at just about any college I wanted to play at to play jazz saxaphone. I turned them all down and enlisted in the Army.
I had scored a 32 on my ACT's the beginning of my senior year of high school and at our local MEPS I scored a 98 on my ASVAB right before I shipped. Everyone thought I was crazy for choosing infantry but its what I wanted to do. And Ill tell you right now that I served with some of the smartest people I've ever had the pleasure of being around. Its a very high-speed low-drag job and you have to be quick witted because one mistake could take your life and the life of your brothers beside you.

I believe your statement was completely out of line because you haven't a clue about what you are saying.

I wont even comment on everyone's spin on Kerry's "out of context" speech video. Just like I dont comment when videos flood the internet at all of Bush's verbal blunders.

FFS...
Bush also managed to "stay on" to have some drinks and snorts with the chicks on the beach stateside while those with some cajones were in Vietnam. And somehow (thanks to gullible assholes) he's a hero for that....
Yeah I know...Clinton didn't go, save the flames. But Kerry did. And somehow he's a joke for that. Thanks to who...?
