North Korean Military Capabilities

http://militaryhistory.about.com/od/...military_2.htm

Found this to be a bit comical. From reading this, any dogfight, or tank on tank action is out of the question for N korea.

Newbies, please watch THIS before posting.

They have lots of grunts and lots of artillery. Of course there is also mama China, but who knows if they would help the red headed stepchild again.

Ya...Kim Jong's so over the top now, I seriously doubt China would help. Back when communism "growing" and spreading everywhere, they gladyly helped. Now that communism has the writing on the wall, there's no advantage to aid.

Especially now that China is part of the global economy.

Edit: Reading that, its sounds like our military would be safe, but the South Korean cities would be hurt pretty bad.

China will not just let anyone roll in there and take over the North. If anything they'll overthrow the government and put their own puppet in charge.

There was an article on MSN telling how the current N Korean nukes are too heavy for a missile. But there was "concern" about the fact that NK had Soviet IL-28 bombers.......IL-28's are over 55 years old!!! a small straightwing bomber with WWII vintage jet engines!! Those should be in a museum!!

Their military is a joke. They got lots of boots on the ground, that's it.

Granted, we wouldn't want to occupy the country and deal with the crazy mother fuckers though...

yeah china won't mess with us... They like their economy way too much

What I think our concern should be is
1. N. Korea gives weapons (nuclear or other) to another nation or terrorist group
2. N. Korea attacks S. Korea, and we are forced to defend our ally.

Iran was very similar in their abilities during their war with Iraq but they proved just how valuable boots on the ground are. Even with our best chemical weapons and extensive training from CIA operatives the Iraqis couldn't stop the waves of men running straight into their firing lines. Lots of Iranians died but they still were never invaded by the Iraqis.

It doesn't matter what kind of machine guns you've got or how good your aim is when there are 1,000 men running at your position you'll lose it. Russia's defense of Stalingrad is another example, they were massively outgunned and had virtually no training but still held off the Nazis thanks to way more manpower.

China will defend N. Korea to a point, but like it was said they are way over the top now. If they invade the south is the biggest concern at the moment. All that high tech crap works great until it is hand to hand and then it comes down to numbers. China and N.Korea have been trying to get there hands on western tech any way they can for a long time now. There was an article in the news just a few days ago about how China has a standing offer of 4 mil. for an F-16 engine and how there useing arms dealers to do there spy work. That way they stay clean with no direct connection. It went on to say how they where impressed with the way Iraq was beaten so easy and wanted the same tech we have.
That whole deal is a bomb with the timers ticking. Just waiting for it to go off.

Even when we catch their spies they get off with a slap on the wrist. Wen Ho Lee had all of our data regarding nukes on his personal computer when he was finally arrested, yet instead of death by firing squad like most people would get he was hit with a single felony of improperly downloading restricted data. He was one of the senior engineers at Los Alamos btw.

There is no proof that he directly gave the secrets to China but it sure is convenient that they have nearly exact clones of our best warheads at the time. As an added benefit he was awarded $1.6 million for his "troubles" thanks to leaked information and the resulting media coverage.

Not to mention Hughes and Loral illegally selling China the missile technology to get the nukes wherever they want. Instead of jail time for those responsible though we just fined the companies.

i know chinese and russian military observers/advisors were completely shocked that we dismantled the iraqi military in just 3 weeks of fighting in 2003. They expected the campaign to go on for longer, especially considering we didnt have months and months of airstrike preperation like we did in round 1.

Actually the last B-52H rolled of the Boeing assembly line in October 1962, a few weeks after I was born
