I'd rather be dead than stuck in a useless body because my brain clicks when people talk to me.

I agree too. People look at me strange when I speak my views on things like assisted suicide and the such. I guess they think if I am in the medical field I should be unconditional pro-life.

I am actually caring for a patient right now that I think is in the same situation. I feel that he can hear and understand, but his body just won't let him show it. Very sad. I hate to see it.

do you leave the radio on or what? Does anyone read to him, get a recorder and play audio books for him. if he can process info, the boordom would be horrible If there was no input.

The way I look at it is if the result is the same (death) either by starvation or some kind of quick shot then the shot wins every time.

Perhaps, but the brain's responsiveness to input does not necessarily mean the patient is aware of it on any concious level.

If the memory process slows to nothing it will eventually "atrophy". Since exercise is out of the question, chemical response is the bst you get.

If I recall correctly the idea was Terri Schiavo's intention according to her husband were not to be in this state to begin with. I hope that those entrusted with your last wishes will carry them out and not hold on for their reasons and ignore your wishes.

"A drug commonly used as a sleeping pill appears to have had a miraculous effect on brain-damaged patients who have been in a permanent vegetative state for years, arousing them to the point where some are able to speak to their families, scientists report today."
