Kinky Friedman is on the Texas Govenor Ballot!

WE DID IT!!!

Kinky actually made it onto the ballot for Texas Govenor as an independent. Carol Strayhorn also made it but Kinky had more than 25,000 more validated signatures and he did it with 1/10th the budget Strayhorn spent.

Rick Perry's days are numbered!

http://www.kinkyfriedman.com/2006/06/its_official.html

Quote:
AUSTIN, Texas -- June 21, 2006 -- Texas Secretary of State Roger Williams today informed independent candidate Kinky Friedman that his name will appear on the statewide general election ballot for governor this November.

"According to the verification, your petition has a sufficient number of signatures to qualify you for a place on the ballot. Accordingly, your name will be certified to the counties on Sept. 6, 2006 as an independent candidate for the office of governor," said the letter from Williams' office.

I'll probably vote for him anyway. I'm more along the lines of turning death row into a gas chamber (a'la Adolph Hitler), and killing them all at one time. I'm tired of feeding the SOB's.

Yeah, but I'll take 95% right-on over 75% fucked-up any old day.

I signed the petition at the Roundup, even had my voter's registration card on hand so I could get verified on the spot. He's got my vote. I hope he runs for president, in fact. Time to do away with all this bullshit.

Now there is my line of thinking.

I could turn this into a, "Rick Perry is a moron thread" but I think we've already beaten that horse to death.

I'm all for his casino gambling idea. Piss on Vegas...let's do it right here. Stats show that Shreveport would GO AWAY, and Vegas would take a HUGE hit, if Texas went to casino's. Texans are a HUGE percentage of Vegas' business.

Don't forget Oklahoma. Yep, let's keep Texas money in Texas. We could use it...

It was Delay and Abramoff that lobbied against gambling in Texas with funds from the Oklahoma and Lousiana casino owners.

If the Kinkster could eventually transend Texas politics (2012) we might have manufacturing and a middle class in this country again. INDEPENDANT PARTY!!!

But I get ahead of myself....

Most of the Casino lobby money has been coming from Oaklahoma. Those casinos are owned by indian groups like the Choctaw. If a casino is built in Texas, they're dead. Louisiana casino companies are not limited to a reservation and would have less of a problem with casinos. I think Harrahs has said they support it. The could put a casino in Dallas and kill all the competition in Oaklahoma.

Let's get this straight...Harrah's would trade a riverboat casino in friggin' Shreveport, for a casino in Dallas...do you think? I'll bet they DO support that!

There are a bunch of people fed up with Rick Perry and 75% of the voting population can't name the democratic candidate (Chris Bell btw). I don't see Strayhorn winning anything at all so it's going to be between Perry and Friedman.

Just because someone has a lot of stands on issues that you share, doesn't really qualify him/her as governor. Just make sure you guys vote on more than his opinions. Make sure you vote in someone who can run the state's office.

My dad has voted straight democrat for atleast the last 30 years (was raised on a farm, worked for the railroad). He told me last night he'd probably vote for Kinky.

I really like his Casino plan. It's stupid not to have them in Texas, I mean go to Shreveport or any of the Texas border casinos and the parking lots are full of Texas plates. There is plenty of room in West Texas to replicate the entire state of Nevada, not just Vegas and Reno.

Hell, Dallas is wondering what to do with Reunion Arena. I say bring in Harrah's, and make it a Casino. They want to revitalize the Trinity area? Build casino's around it.

Man I'd love to see something like the Venetian go up in downtown Ft. Worth but instead of having the indoor river make the gondolas go through town. Get the Bass brothers involved and every land owner in Tarrant County could be a millionaire in a few years. I bet the Gaylord Texan could spare some of it's floor space for a casino as well.

Ya, Ft Worth would do something like The Venetian or Billagio and Dallas would get some crusty lookin "outskirts of vegas" casino. You know the one on the side of the highway as you're leaving the state, heading back home. LOL

No one has been running them for at least 6 years now so just about anything would be an improvement.
Besides (remove special interest and...) HOW HARD CAN IT BE!!!

Someone who can run the state?

A governor's responsibility is to delegate that work.

Hopefully, since he's an independent and didn't rely on a political party to get his name on the ballot, he doesn't have to "pay back" any big contributors. Remember FEMA director Michael Brown? That incompetent mofo got fired from a horse training association. Guess it pays to be a friend of an elected Republican or Democrat these days...

I don't give a shit if he loses, it's time to send a strong signal to the motherfuckers running this ship into the ground. Perot's election performance got the Republicans' attention, but they've gone right back to being sorry pieces of shit after the Contract With America.

Kinky's got a $231k budget so far and no political party affiliation. He's gonna have a hard time getting competitive advertising with Strayhorn but he shouldn't have a problem keeping tabs with the democrats.

If Kinky does even mediocre in debates, assuming they let him in on them, then he's going to win. However Perry is going to really shine and should be able to win back most of the Strayhorn potential voters, probably getting enough support to get re elected.

I think he got bent out of shape over his I-35 corridor plan that isn't going to happen. He realized that he doesn't really have much power as a governor and is just collecting a paycheck. His real power is face time supporting legislation he likes and I can't remember seeing him behind anything during his entire term. I've seen Strayhorn on TV more than him and she's only the comptroller. I want someone like Kinky that will atleast get some positive publicity for the state.

I have to give him credit for backing the tax cut and the speed limit boost. Like you said, it is just face time mostly. Although that special session he called when the dems ran off to NM & OK was decent, although I would expect the same of anyone at the minimum. That bitch Strayhorn was moaning about the tax cut being "too small" and I'm like WTF? I'll take anything and I can get and she wants to give it back? I hope she gets indicted for something soon. I don't care what, just something. Kiddie porn, serial murder, money laundering, anything.
