Actual public works projects such as a dam, floodplains, libraries, civic center, even a criticial highway or bridge, etc. was the original intent of eminent domain. That is to build something that actually helps citizens of the community, without involvement of corporate america.
When the use of eminent domain is allowed for a private money making venture(like the new Cowboy's stadium) potentially no place, no home in America is safe from being targeted by some corporation looking to make money.
But put aside your left wing/right wing opinions and just look at the numbers. 6000 people will be "relocated" in an area where the median income is $19K/yr.
Will this yatch club generate 6000 jobs that pay more than $19K/year? I doubt it. So will the actual community benefit? Or just the investors who build the yacht club?
And the New Cowboys stadium, it will cost taxpayers $500 million, while Jerry Jones gets to keep all the profits. But it will generate about 200 jobs that pay $8/hr.
Do you want your house be bulldozed to build a new Wingstop?
