Global Warming

http://www.nature.com/news/2005/0505...050516-10.html

Quote:
East Antarctica puts on weight
Increased snowfall over a large area of Antarctica is thickening the ice sheet and slowing the rise in sea level caused by melting ice.

A satellite survey shows that between 1992 and 2003, the East Antarctic ice sheet gained about 45 billion tonnes of ice - enough to reduce the oceans' rise by 0.12 millimetres per year.

Still a lot we don't understand about weather and climate with our finite knowledge.

Nah it's not the scientists fault. Most Scientist will tell you that they simply don't know the extent of global warming. Those that give us the doomsday senarios have been killing their own credibility because they make predictions that simply don't come true. I remember, back in the 70's, that they predicted the artic and antartic caps would be melted before the century ended, however they are still there. We have seen huge ice flows fall off the Antartic, but thats how nature is. There is an ebb and flow to everything.

Now I'm not totally dismissing global warming. I believe that we have had a large impact on our world since the industrial age began. However we have also made huge strides to correct our mistakes. CFCs are almost completely dead in the world. Scientists are reporting that the OZone layer is actually improving, decades ahead of their earlier predictions. CO^2 emmissions are under far better control than they were 20 years ago. Even at the coal burning power plants. You don't even hear about people mentioning Acid Rain anymore.

Go look at Los Angeles. Many cars are so clean now that California emmision stations cannot even detect the exhaust. They are having fewer and fewer smog days every year. That tells me we've made progress by taking sensible solutions to our problems, not reverting back to living in caves as the enviroWackos would have us do. Now if we can just get some more nuke plants built, we can start really enjoying some really clean air.

It's all because the earth's ice caps stay on it's axis. the axis is constantly moving away from whay was once the north and south pole.
