Heard that this morning.

I don't know why it would be harder to hear that it was him rather than some other soldier, but it is. Maybe because he gave up money, fame, and everything that goes with it because he wanted to serve. Sad.

That's really a shame. He has my eternal debt and respect. He displayed more courage than 99.9% of any ever to step on a football field. The fact that he was willing to (and unfortunately did) die for his beliefs is what everyone should strive for. Everytime I hear some weakneck chickenshit crybaby bag on the war I feel the overwhelming desire to puke. Courage is giving up your life to protect a way of life. God bless him.

Good point. But again you worded it as "radical" which I would not describe most US Soldiers as and certainly not Pat Tillman.

yes its sad, its sad when any soldier is killed, but its even sadder that just because he made millions of dollars and was a pro football player he gets all the credit on the television when im sure there are MULTIPLE stories of soldiers leaving lives behind them after 9/11 to go to war and they fought then died
i HATE how the media puts certain individuals above others its disrepectful period. why dont they NAME the other soldiers who die daily, why dont they at LEAST run theirs names across the screen instead of saying a dozen killed or 8 or 9 killed today
"death of one is a tragedy, death of millions a statistic"
i hate how the media makes soldiers out to be just as dispencable as the tanks and hummers

nothing AGIANST Pat Tillman at all may God rest his soul, but i just wish EVERY soldier got the same kind of respect thats all

I agree 100 %. I also want to add that Pat Tillman was braver than all non serving Americans because he went and served for us so we did not have to. However, it is sad that the media has ran this story continuosly throughout the day commending him. Based on what I have heard, Pat wanted to be treated like a 'normal' soldier with no special treatments. Now after his death, he is getting more publicity than ever; even more than when he was a football star. Would he want this? NO.. and he made it quite clear that his military career would not be talked about to reporters. Because he was a pro NFL player, does that make him better than anyone of us or better than any other soldier that was fighting next to him? Or does it tell you that we, as Americans, value sports players more than we do our soldiers that are fighting for our freedom? Furthermore, Pat Tillman happened to be great at football and made short career out of it, but felt serving his country was far more important just as the other 400 people serving did that has died in Iraq since major fighting has ceased. Pat left behind a football career, while others have left behind sons and daughters that will no longer have mothers and fathers. To me it seems as if they should be commended at such a high stature as well but the media is sometime blind all heros.

To Pat and all his fellow fallen soldiers "I gladly stand up..."
You are not forgotten...RIP

Pat Tillman was a fine example of a human being and and American.

I've got news for ya'll. Pat Tillman isn't an exception in the US Army. Pat Tillman is the norm. We've got nearly 1000 Pat Tillmans since 9-11. We got a few hundred of him on 9-11.

Every soldier that has died, is a Pat Tillman. The only difference is that we all know his name.

Take a minute to learn a few of the other 706 Pat Tillmans that have died in Iraq alone.

I'm not denying that everyone who is serving is not a hero. But you've gotta give Pat Tillman props for his patriotism. How many of us would turn down a job paying $3M over 3 years to up and enlist in the military? That's what makes Pat special.

IMO, what makes him special is that he did that and didn't think he was special.

Another aspect of him not mentioned is that he refused any interviews after his enlistment because he said that he deserved nothing more than his fellow soldiers.

I think what he is saying is that they are willing to die for their beliefs. You're right, they are wrong because they take it to the extreme. The muslim extremeists believe that if you don't think like they do you must die. They don't step right up to your face and do it, they wait till your not expecting it and sucker punch you. Not to memtion kill innocent people in the process.

I'm REALLY sorry that Pat had to give his life. I really am.
I'M SICK of hearing in the MEDIA about how he gave up sooooo much to serve his country.
I don't know anything about the man.............does he have children?
If he doesn't, then he gave up FAR LESS the any other serviceman that had died over there or at anytime.
I did hear his interview today about how it was an honor to go defend his country and I admire him for saying that. Ask any serviceman and most will tell you the same. I know it was for me.
Don't get me wrong here. He gave his life for his country! But he is no better that anyone else that did so before him or who will afterwards.
I'm sorry guys. The media coverage of this really pissed me off today!

I'm off my soapbox now!

I also agree that he is a hero, but no more than any of the other men and women in the military. I would gladly volanteer to go back into the military if they would accept me any day, war or not.

There is a huge difference in dying for someone that wants to conform the world to thier beliefs, while murdering innocent people (Notice the head terrorists are not willing to die themselves), and someone who is willing to die to:
A) ensure that his fellow countrymen remain free
B) help put down a dictator that is no more than a terrorist
C) stop a terrorist from murdering innocent people wether they be Americans or not

I disagree. He did give up more than most Americans. The man as much as had a winning lottery ticket in his hand with that multi-million dollar contract. Now how many soldiers out there would have left the fame and fortune of being a professional athlete to go fight? Very few I'd bet.

There is nothing wrong about making this guy a hero. It takes nothing away from the other soldiers who have given their lives. It is a remarkable story because he did a remarkable thing. Give credit where credit is due.

he and his brother were supposed to compete in this years Best Ranger competition...i am sure they would have won...
IMO, all the soldiers who have died protectiong our way of life are heroes regardless of background, race, or popularity. i think that the average joe that dies over there and had a young wife and child gave up way more than tillman. only difference is that everyone knows who tillman is and his story. i just cant imagine what it would be like to take a hit over there and know you are dying and you will never see your family again...that is why all of us wrote a goobye letter before going into combat just in case...

I agree with that. No amount of money is worth leaving a family without a father or husband. I also agree with you that every soldier that serves his/her country on foriegn soil in conflict is a hero. I don't want anyone to misconstrue my comments to not recognize them as well. But when you consider his decision to join in spite of the millions of dollars he had offered him, well, that is a very very commendable thing.

Every soldier is a hero no doubt. The difference is you can put a name with a face w/ Pat Tillman, I doubt any other soldier gave up millions to enlist. Like it was said he wanted no recognition from the media. So all you that complain about the media coverage wake up!!! His story is being told to show what a hero is, sure others stories could be told but this one will reach more people for the simple fact he was a professional athlete . Where is your pride?

Thank GOD there are some X-servicemen in here!
Most of you people don't have the slightest clue what EVERY serviceman GIVES UP for his country on a DAILY basis..........much less the ones that have to go into harms way and the ones that actually give the ultimate sacrifice! I'm glad that you DON'T have to know first hand!
Memorial Day and Veteran's Day should make you give thanks to the men and women that sacrificed all or part of their lives so that you can pursue your dreams, race your Mustangs, voice your opinions and raise your children in the best country in the world!

I was a Marine up untill my son was in the breadbox. I had to give up that option, unfortunatley. Recruit Marines don't make very much money.

My sister is a Marine. LCpl Flores.
My StepDad was a Marine.
My cousins are Marines.
