Kazaa is making my internet connection slower

I have things downloading, but they aren't maxing out my bandwidth. Whenever I close Kazaa all the webpages seem to load faster. I did a tracert to dfwstangs.net, and when it was on, the ms between hops went up above 1000. When I did a tracert when it was off, it was down inbetween 10-20ms.

Does Kazaa-Lite hog bandwidth all the time? I just noticed this recently. What may be the cause?

Ok where do I start on this one.....

I take it you are using KaZaa and not KaZaa light correct?

If so KaZaa installs Spyware on your PC (and yes that uses extra bandwidth) not to mention that it does some interesting things to the way your PC communicates. Uninstalling KaZaa will not resolve the issues so you will need to download SpyBot from http://security.kolla.de/. After installing SPyBot run the update program and then remove the crap that was install from KaZaa.

Also what is your OS (operating system)?

Sounds like Win XP to me.

Ok so you like KaZaa try KaZaa Lite from http://doa2.host.sk/ this is just the same as the regular KaZaa but with out the Spyware crap and it won't slow your PC down execpt when other people are downloading from you. You might what to limit the number of people that can download from you as well.

Enjoy!

F Kazaa!

I just finished formatting my hard drive because of Kazaa. I picked up a nasty virus from there and was not able to get rid of it.

It also depends on the other guys connection. If you're trying to download something from someone on dial-up, its gonna be slow. Sort by bandwidth, should help you out.

I have Kazaa-Lite and im using XP pro, and there usually aren't very many people downloading from me. I set a limit to 3 users, and they are rarely going at full upload speed.

What kind of connection do you have? Also what are your PC specs?

Thats what your problem is, turn that off... Your upload speed GREATLY effects your download speed.

Also, Kazaa Lite is a resource hog. I rarely see my cpu usage under 85 - 100% while k-lite is running. It's apparently a known issue too ... so hopefully they'll fix it in a later release.

That could be what you're experiencing ... not necissarily slower bandwidth, but a slower computer overall, which will subsequently affect the bandwidth.

I highly doubt it would slow his computer down, the kid leaves in southlake and probably has a super computer. I'm surprised he doesnt have a T1 at his house.

Its not Kazaa with the problem. It is idiots that share virus's on Kazaa. Then people unknowingly download and execute the virus and they think Kazaa caused the problem. Scan everything you download and 99% of the time you will be safe.

If you have cable internet, anyone uploading from you computer will kill your download speed, even if its one slow connection. Cable doesnt handle cuncurrent downloads and uploads well. At least not Comcast/AT&T.

Speaking of viruses and Kazaa ... I was downloading something the other night, and about 5% into it, it failed, and Norton popped up with a message immediately after, that a virus was detected, and deleted First time that's ever happened. I always scan after downloading, because I didn't think it would scan while downloading. That's pretty slick.

Keep those scanners up to date! (And still scan after the download too ... just to be safe)
