Hey I have a Gateway 700x and was wondering if I can pull the PC800 rambus out and run PC2100ddr. Anyone know if this is possible? thanks

Nope. Not unless the board has slots for PC2100. But I'm pretty sure that's a negative.

Complain if you would like to, but rambus smokes DDR... Too bad that includes speed and price...

Yea, I was going to say. Rambus is much faster than DDR. But, like Sean said, it's expensive.

Its like going turbo over nitrous. I'd rather have the nitrous and a better cpu. Intel blows

Rambus is technically faster ... but it's limited right now to the bus speed. DDR is as fast as the bus speed. No bottleneck. Rambus can click along at 800MHz, but when the bus speed is only 400MHz, the advantages of Rambus soon dissappear ... leaving the glaring disadvantage of price.

I have yet to see any performance numbers of Rambus smoking DDR in comparably equipped systems.

Now ... once Canterwood is out, with the 800+MHz bus ... things'll be changing pretty rapidly. But good God those things are going to cost a mint!
