Problems with my wireless NIC
Over the past couple of days, my wireless nic has been acting up. It started about 2 days ago, with a connection loss, then it was regained. Twice in a row, about a minute apart. Then, a few hours later, it did the same thing, so thinking it was something going on with the router, I went and reset it. When I got back to my computer, it was hard locked.
After restarting, my NIC was missing, and XP was detecting new hardware. To make a long story short, I had to completely reinstall my wireless NIC from scratch to get it going again. I even updated to the newest drivers.
Yesterday, I get home, and bring the laptop back up from Standby (I haven't turned my laptop off for about 2 months now), and as soon as I get online to check my e-mail, my computer locks up and restarts. Again, upon getting back into XP, my NIC is nowhere, and XP is detecting new hardware again. Wash, rinse, repeat. Since it rebooted on it's own this time, I checked the dump file, and here's the stop error I received:
STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x80000000,0x00000002,0x00000000,0xF2C28F7D)
AIRPLUS.sys - Address F2C28F7D base at F2C1F000, DateStamp 3e65d06c
So, it appears it's most definitely the NIC, or at least the drivers, causing the problem.
So I thought maybe it's because I leave my computer on standby. So last night, I turned my computer off for the first time in 2 months. When I get back on it today ... again, as soon as I'm finished checking my e-mail, I get "wireless connection unavailable." and 2 seconds later "wireless connection available. signal: excellent." But then my computer is hard locked.
So I just yanked the card out, uninstalled the drivers, and I'm hardwired into my router for the time being. I'm back and forth with D-Link about this. Their initial suggestion was to update to the latest drivers, which I'd already done. I'm waiting on their next response to the stop code, and whether or not I need a replacement.
So, basically ... what do you guys think? Is it the card/drivers, or is it the computer? It's been working perfectly for the past couple of months. It's just within the last 2 days that it's been fucking up. And I haven't made any changes, other than to my data (websites, photoshop projects, spreadsheets, etc. No new programs installed, no new windows updates for the past 2 weeks.), on my system.
It's a D-Link DWL-650+
