Thumbs up Ricochet returning to Dallas!

Not sure how far into the future but it's looking very promising in the fact that they are back in business again Man, I'd love to have wireless broadband from my laptop!

Looks like a max of 128kbps. Not a bad price at $30 ... unfortunately that's only offered in Denver. At $45, it's only $5 cheaper than my wireless provider, and I'm averaging 1.2Mbps down and 900kbps up.

But being cellular based, looks like it's going to have a much wider coverage area, which would be very cool for peeps outside of other wired or wireless options.

Jay, is your high speed wireless provider fixed or portable? That's the advantage of Ricochet. Mount the modem to your laptop and your are completely portable within there coverage area. I don't know of any other service offering that.

Maybe you don't understand the Richochet connection the way I described it, it's completely portable and uses a cellular "type" connection. So I could travel down the road with my laptop (or PDA) and maintain an internet connection.

Jay, who's your broadband connection through?

No I understood I was being facetious by saying it was portable within the house.

It's through PurelyOnline. They've only got coverage in parts of Plano and Allen, and I'm within reach of the Allen tower. I think they've only got 2 towers up (or two antennae's). I've been back and forth with 'em trying to convince them to put up more towers, and get more coverage.

If you've got access to cable or DSL, get 'em because they'll generally be faster, and/or more stable. But for people like me, out in the boonies, and no cable or DSL service in sight, it's a godsend.

I don't have cable access available to me and DSL (or I should say IDSL) is available but fairly expensive last time I checked. Richochet would be pretty usefull if not only could I use it at home but I could roam around town and have complete internet access.
