Slow Boot

I tore my computer apart to the basic compenents (Mobo, Memory, Power Supply, Keyboard, and Video Card). I then connected my floppy drive so I could get into DOS. It booted fine. I connected a hard drive, it spent like a minute at the red COMPAQ screen. I thought maybe it was the drive so I tried another one, but only to get the same results. I looked on Compaq's site but didn't find anything regarding this problem. I even got the newest BIOS for my mobo but have the same problem. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help guys.

CPU/Mobo ?
Ram?
HDD?

Need some more information about the system.

It sounds like it might be the IDE controller, just from what you've described. Try putting the HDD on the other IDE controller and see if you get the same problem. If so, try resetting the bios.

I did that earlier. Works fine. Seems like I had the hard drives on the secondary IDE controller and the cd roms on the primary IDE controller. either way, its working fine now. i just finished installing windows 2000 server on it

thanks for your help though
