PDA and Synching with Outlook

I screwed something up when I tried to synch my PDA with Outlook tonight and now I've got double entries in my calendar for everything. Any ideas on what I should do? I've been thinking about wiping everything out on the PDA and on this Outlook and starting it over synching it up at home to get everything back together.

What type of PDA do you have, and what software are you using for synching it up?

Running an HP Jornado Pocket PC and MS ActiveSync software.

Kenny, what I'd like to do is delete the whole profile on MS Outlook and start over. Might even let the battery go down completely on the Jornado so that it wipes the memory out and I can just go home and sync it up again. What do you think???

I've never used the HP Jornada, but I have used ActiveSync ( with iPaq's ) so I'm guessing they're basically the same software, what I would do is reset the memory on the Jornada ( on they iPaq there's a switch for this, not sure on the Jornada ) and then recreate your Outlook profile, make sure you set the rules up in ActiveSync to have Outlook have priority over the Jornada ( if there are conflicting entries, Outlook overwrites the Jornada, not the other way around ) and see if this helps.

OK, I know about the button that you are talking about which the Jornado has. How do I redo the profile in Outlook?

Do you have Outlook Express or Outlook 97 or 2K or XP? In Outlook 97 - XP right click on the Outlook button on your desktop, then click the button that says "Show Profiles", delete the profile and recreate it. If you don' t know your exchange or SMTP and POP servers, make sure you write them down before deleting the profile so you know what to fill in the blanks with when recreating the profile. IN outlook express, it should be similar but I'm not 100% sure.

I had the same problem on my Ipaq 1910, Just do a hard reset on the PDA, then Re-Sync it. That should fix your problem, as it did mine.

To do a hard reset, tap the power button and the reset button with the stylus at the same time. You'll lose everything on the PDA, but It'll restore everything when you re-sync it on your desktop.

Just re-enter the owner info.

Using Outlook 2000.

I don't think simply clearing the PDA and resynching will do it. What I fucked on is that when I tried to resynch it here for the first time it asked for me to install some Office Components and I didn't have the CD so I went ahead and created the profile anyway. When I first tried to synch it, I had the CD and I installed those components but it wouldn't let me use the original profile name (which was the same profile name I use at home on my desktop) so I had to create a new name (default name with a 1 at the end). It then proceeded to duplicate my calendar which I had imported in on both computers but under different profile names. It doubled all the entrys on both the PDA and on my work desktop.

I'm pretty sure that if I synch it at home it will double it up as well so I'm holding off. I think I'm just going to uninstall Outlook here at work and reload it and create the exact same profile name I use at home and resynch it again.

You shouldn't have to uninstall outlook, just remove the profile and readd it... that should correct the problem.

I don't have an icon on my desktop anymore. The ones that I have on the Start Menu and under Programs do not give that option

You can reach that same screen by going to your Control Panel and opening the Mail icon ( might also say Mail and Fax ) and click on "Show Profiles".

In my control panel in WinXP I have an icon for mail, not sure about Win2K though.

You may also be able to open that dialog box by doing a search for the following file and double clicking on it, the file name is MLCFG32.CPL ( I'm not sure if this is the same for Win2k w/ Office 2K, but that's what works on my XP box w/ OfficeXP ).

OK, I found it after switching the Control Panel over to Classic View. Now I went into it and there's nothing there. Probably because I use Outlook Express for my email and Outlook for Contacts, Calendars, and Notes. So I'm back to square one I think.

Well, I think the only thing left to do is to reinstall Outlook. Once installed it should place the icon on your desktop, use that to access you're profile.

Ya, that's what I'm going to do this evening. That and I need to run my PDA (battery) dead to clear out it's calendar's double entry's. I'll remember to leave the icon on my desktop.

Dammit! Got the Jornado cleared and when I try to synch it up it ask me if I want to create (I think they called it) an association. I click next and it won't take the default name that Outlook uses, it wants a new one. I'm worried that I'll synch it up and it will screw things back up again (duplicating shit in my calendar).

GD!!!! I uninstalled Outlook on my work computer and it's still remember the last profile. Obviously I've got to do more than simple remove Office from Add/Remove
