WinZIP compression ratio question

I had to ZIP up about 2.10 MB of pictures to send to Nicolle and setting WinZIP to the Maximum Compression Ratio didn't compress it significantly. It compressed it to like 2 MB. What's the deal with this? I've never had much luck compressing stuff with WinZIP. Is there something better or am I doing something wrong?

It depends on what your are zipping as to how much it will be compressed. If it is jpeg's, they are already compressed about as much as they are going to get. That is why when you try to zip them you only save about 3 or 4%. Try zipping some bmp's. You will see a huge difference.

That makes sense then. Now is that the same for MPEG's and AVI's?

Yeah, I think .avi is like the largest, as in it isn't compressed as much as the others making it a larger file, and .mov is one of the smallest. MPEG's are somewhere inbetween.

Thumbs up

You will notice the same phenomenon with an MP3 file....whereas a WAV file will compress about 90%...
