plextor, if they make external CDRW's. They are by far the best.

I know for sure Plextor makes external CD-RW's I have a PlexWriter 12.10.32S SCSI external CD-RW. Also Iomega makes USB CD-Burners which would save you the trouble of having to buy a SCSI card for an external SCSI burner like the Plextor. BTW, what model Dell laptop do you have?

The only thing about USB is that you will be limited to a 4X Burn Speed unless you have a USB 2.0 port on your laptop (doubtfull). But if you can live with the slower 4X Speed than you have some cheap options (under $100) for an external CD-RW. Plextor and Iomega would be what I would get.

Im not to worried about speed cuz what ever it is it will be faster than me driving to a friends house and trying to burn a cd there... where do they sell these brands.

You might want to check out http://www.pricewatch.com and http://www.pricegrabber.com. Another place to buy locally is Sears. They will pricematch any online retailer and beat them by 10%. I got an excellent deal on my digital camera this way. You just need to print it out and make sure the shipping is included.
