Ssd

Has any put an SSD drive in their computer yet?

Was the performance boost worth the cost? Any brands you like or don't like?

Discuss....

Performance is stellar. I'm just not a fan of the write cycle limit.

I went ahead an ordered one, then found out my PC doesn't have AHCI mode in the BIOS. I hope it still works. I don't want to have to upgrade my MB/CPU.

My cousin got one and loaded his OS (windows 7) and I wasnt that impressed... it did boot up faster...but not that much faster. Not worth the extra costs to me.

That's the key to me as well. All the folks I know that have installed it love the boot times, ESPECIALLY in laptops it really makes a nice difference. Problem is you generally will need external storage then or in a desktop some more drives. In a desktop, no biggy, but in a laptop that sucks have to haul the other drive around all the time.

I'll admit though, I'm waiting for them to get higher capacity and cheaper - then I'll do a PC upgrade. Just at the moment they are bit expensive for the gains.

All my data (music, documents, pics, etc) are stored on my Windows Home Server. So my PC only uses about 40GB for the OS and my programs. So I think it may really improve my system speed.

I have the 80gb Intel and never looked back. Best purchase I think I made in a long time for a computer.
