I install CUPS with the CUPC all the time. What the problem? Let me guess, it either involves a VPN or a video problem?

I just want to rant. I spend at least 3 hours of my day on the phone with Cisco trying to get this nice little program to work.

Should run fairly well unless the installation was jacked from the beginning or there is an infrastructure problem. Generally speaking setting it up is a complete disaster from a design/configuration point of view, but once it is up and going it should be easy going.

PM or post up the problems.

We started using it at version 7. We have it rolled out to a pilot group while the "bugs" are worked out. 10 months later we are on version 8. The latest version broke something with making p2p video calls. We have had to make a few AD changes, it seems though with every version of the client they fix one bug and create two more. We are now working on why with just a pilot group the domain controller cpu runs at a 100%, which I think we may have that handled by modifying the way cupc is searching ldap.

I guess we are still in the design *disaster* phase.

Yeah, generally speaking the "other way" for LDAP queries is better then the default way. The default way will send multiple queries and get retarded with timeouts. The other way (just the port number change in CUPS right?) will be much better. In my installations these days I configure that immediately to alleviate as many hassles as possible.

I know what you're saying with the bugs. We have one customer that is not happy. Documentation from data sheets, marketing, SRND and so for say CAD integration with CUPS works. Well, with 8 it won't until an ES is released first quarter of next year.

Did you do the install or did you pay a partner?

I hate this piece of shit program! We run version 7 and it's had nothing but problems since installation. I have spent about 8 hours on the phone this week with Cisco about various problems. We just upgraded to Server 2008 from 2003 and for some reason damn CUPC wouldn't give us deskphone control. We finally got that shit straightened out only to run into more problems of where it wouldn't pull in cell phone numbers out of Active Directory. I really wish we would of went with an Avaya system or some other shit. Figuring out Cisco bugs is just too damn frustrating! We are due to upgrade to version 8 with CUCM, Presence, and Unity and I'm dreading the day we decide to do it. What's even worse is being the phone guy and having absolutely ZERO training on a Cisco Voip system. My boss went to all kinds of training for it, and she asks me how to do shit because she has no clue! FML...

Maybe easier to just put the burdon on a gold partner and have them do it. Send me a pm if you want me to put you in touch with someone. Otherwise, for general training, pm me and I will help with what I can. May cost you a few beers depending...

Trust me Avaya/Nortel systems have their own problems. I could go on more tirades about them than Cisco gear and I hardly have to integrate with them and it never is a Cisco issue.CUPS is a fairly fresh application. It'll mature and be be bullet proof soon enough.
