computer is fast but internet is slow

hp pavilion dv6-1259dx entertainment notebook pc
Its running wondows vista
Internet has always sucked a fat dick on it.. sometimes it works awesome and sometimes i cant even surf.. wont load pages and gives me an error message.. on the bottom right it says i have basically 100% internet strength.. both of my (wifi) phones always connect and browse with no problems..

I've taken it to best buy where i bought it and they are idiots and dont see a prob as it normally connects on the first try..

can anyone suggest where i should go from here?

Many thanks in advance!!

usually it's the opposite. Have you tried using it with someone else's internet? Maybe your connection just sucks...

Do local file transfers go the same speed or similar on the LAN? Need to determine if it is a NIC/Adapter problem or something with it getting on the internet. Can you copy/paste the results from an ipconfig/all ?

If you do a speedtest on speakeasy.net/speedtest does it seem the same as on one of the laptops?

Sorry if I missed where you said it, but are talking over wireless only....if so, have you tried it on a wire to see if there is difference?

PLEASE download and install SP2 and any updates afterward and see if the issue doesn't go away.

Also, here's the newest driver for your wireless adapter.

Good deal. SP2 provides quite the performance enhancement in Vista as well as being more secure. Try it first then move on to the driver if the issue isn't resolved.

On the pc pitstop test, you got 4.5 down but if your speed is consistent w/ what you're paying for, that's what matters. To answer your question, the speed you're gettin isn't bad. Now let's see if it stays consistent like your other machines.
