Anyone played with the new Kinect yet?

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/kinect

I've been beta testing with one of these for the past few months, and I've got to say that it is pretty friggin cool. The peformance of the SW has improved dramatically in the last couple releases. It should be a really cool hit for the kids at Christmas time....my daughter plays it all the time, and thankfully we're finally to a point in the beta where I can allow her to show her friends. I just wish they were doing more advertising on it.

No. Until they come out with games that are geared towards a more mature audience, I doubt I'll be playing it.

Kinnect Sports is geared towards everyone, and I'm finding the games to be pretty fun myself....the table tennis is really accurate and not exactly an easy game...definitley not just a kids game. The bowling and soccer-shot games are pretty cool too. We've got a Wii also and the bowling on Kinect blows it away.

The cool thing is that it's not just about the games...it's a whole new OS for the Xbox that adds voice control as well as the controllerless input....so if you use your Xbox for other stuff like movies, music, ESPN sports, etc....you can do it all without a controller....which is really cool for me b/c I use mine as a Media Center...actually more-so than for gaming.

...yup, 3GS is still working great! I also own an iPad too (and I love it!). LOL...they aren't my parents man, I just work for them....they can't dictate my choices as a consumer.

....However, they can persuade me with free stuff....just got notice last week that I'll be getting a new Win7 Mobile Phone next month too. I am anxious to try one out...they are already starting to get a lot of apps out there for them, and now that they've changed the dev platform I suspect we'll see a lot more developers stepping up to the plate.

That's pretty freakin cool. Between this and the PS3's version of Wii, it looks like Nintendo is gonna take quite the hit this winter/spring.

I cant blame the kid...the xbox is know for the ring of death. It was fixed once locally by some shop, then it did the same thing again. Needs the xmod or whatever. He is saving his money to get it fixed...again.

I got the thing for free...I cant complain

I seriously wanna know what peoples habits and console location is like that keep getting the RROD. I got my first 360 from a friend when it had the RROD, but it was still under warranty so I shipped it off and got another unit for free. I've never had a problem with it. I don't think I've cleaned it off once, it sits on the carpet in the upright position and I've gone on many 8+hour gaming binges. I now have my new style 360 with the built-in HD in the same spot and while I don't play as much as I did as when I got the first one, it still sees it's fair share of use.

I don't know if it's luck or what.

josh lay it down.. i've heard that keeping it upright can damage the disks.

the only rrod i've gotten was rectified by reseating the hard drive.

The only way the disc can be damaged is if it moves while spinning. If it's stable, then you're good to go.

The wife and I tried it out at the State Fair. It looks ok, but still not enough to make me part with any money for it. Also, there haven't been a lot of reviews on it. There is even word that Microsoft is trying to embargo reviews until after the launch or they are simply not providing test units.

You know, all motion based console features seem to have one thing in common. They are cool for 3 days.

I'd like to see what Microsoft plans to do with it to make it not a gimmick.

Same as everything else....the new stuff always starts out and is refined through the consumer/gaiming market. You'll see this same technology in the Enterprise space in a few years. I've already seen some amazing stuff that they are working on....well beyond gaming. This is just the start of facial/voice recognition, we'll get to a point not too far in the future where these machines can identify you as an individual with no physical input.
