Laptops

Just curious to see what brands/models you guys have had success with?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Dell, Lattitude E6500

But it's a company laptop and since I work for Dell, I don't have a choice

A few years ago I was pretty impressed with IBM's T series for their ruggedness and features (T22, T23, T30, T43).
I was pretty happy with my old Dell 700m, then an XPS M1210 which I recently sold.
My only true windows laptop now is a Sony TX850p ultraportable that I use for travel (its VERY tiny), and then for around the house I have a new 13 inch Macbook Pro.

I was a pc guy up until 4 years ago. Now I only have Macs. 17in mac book pro and a heavily modded mac mini media center/server connected to mt 52" screen in the living room.
Only issue with mac laptop is the fact that you have to send them back from repairs, when I used to be able to fix my own dell and hp.

It's not the prettiest or the most feature packed but it works well and boots every time.

Did you keep Vista on it or switch to XP?

I bought my wife and sons, a Gateway, an Acer and a Toshiba. I use a Mac pro 15" thats probably about 4 or 5 years old.
The Gateway when I upgraded it to Windows 7, developed a charging issue that won't correct with their BIOS upgrade on line and they want me to ship it back to them with $199. (ain't happening). The Acer worked well but got stolen (at Texas Tech in Lubbock) and the Toshiba, the HD went out only into it's 14th month but was an easy fix and bought a bigger drive while I was at it. My Mac has run perfectly with no issues. Don't buy Sony, you'll spend an extra 3 or 4 hundred just for the name.

The IBM T series were a lot better before they switched to lenovo. Quality went out the window real quick. I did break fix on pc/laptops at an ibm facility and those machines became ~80% of my workload. I kept a loaded up T42p on my desk, wasn't a bad little machine at all but it was always docked so i can't speak for it outside of the building.

I use a dell d600 for work... don't really care for them at all. They get jankety quickly. Toshiba 10" netbook for travel.. it works great i just wish they'd figure out the atom/flash10.1 bullshit.

I've had a few D600/D610's and they are little workhorses but they aint fast with anything. The 610 added USB 2.0 but otherwise was identical. I had a Toshiba netbook but decided I needed something with an optical drive so I opted to search for a no-compromise Ultraportable which led me to the Fujitsu P series or the Sony TX/TZ series. I actually USE the optical drive frequently so buying an external USB drive for a netbook kinda defeated the purpose of the netbook. I wouldn't trade my little sony for ANY netbook.

I have a compaq. It was cheap and it does everything I need it to do fine. I'm not a huge fan of the windows 7 that came with it, but oh well.

If you prefer XP and are willing to source drivers, I have two OEM licenses, one of which I'll give you if you want.

Asus K60i, but it doesn't get the workout my desktop still gets. It's my personal laptop, but it gets used more at work than at home.
