Converting CD's to Digital to store on Drive

Hello,

I want to backup all my CD's so I can put them in a box.
I was using the apple lossless and importing them thru itunes.
I would then put them on my external drive, which was fine.
But I did not want them to be lossless on my internal drive, so I would covert them to mp3's but the mess left behind is to much. I was having to go back and delete the lossless files...pain in the ass.

Can anyone recommend a better way?
I have a mac so if its software keep that in mind.

Thanks.

I don't know how macs work really, but with a PC you can put a cd in the drive, pull up the contents of the cd drive and it will have tracks, just highlight, copy, and paste to your other hard drive. Some albums just say "track #" but some will have all the artist/song info.

Should be able to use a program (I like Media Monkey) and convert the lossless files to MP3 (though, I'm not sure MM works on ALAC files). Then you can copy all of the MP3 files over to your interal drive.
