Backing up iTunes?

About to install a new HD and going to Win7. How can I move all of my stuff off of iTunes onto a another HD without losing any of my music ratings or my apps off of my iPhone?

I know how to move the contents but I don't know about the ratings or apps.

...

If you move the iTunes folder from your My Music folder, it should take of of your settings with it.

So I did some research on this over the past couple of days and found the following article that covers exactly what I'm trying to do (save my ratings and play counts).

Quote:
1. Export the source iTunes library as an XML file (File>Library>Export Library…). This will create a file that holds information about the location, song filenames, and *song rating*!
2. Replace the file paths in your XML file with the path that the songs from the source library will be in when you import them. This path may point to your FireWire Drive, a DVD you have burned, or a temporary folder on your hard drive that you have copied your music to. Just to be sure of the new path, copy one of the files from this location to your library, export your destination library, and look at the file path to that song in the resulting XML file. To actually replace the file paths, I did a Find/Change in TextWrangler but you can just use TextEdit (Edit>Find>Find…).
3. Set the preferences in iTunes in your source library to “Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library.” This is under “Advanced.”
4. Import your library (File>Library>Import Playlist…).
5. Delete redundant files. If you’re like me, you have some duplicate songs in your multiple libraries. This is a tedious task, but I plan to do it over time.
If I have everything in my C:\ and I copy the whole iTunes folder over to another drive and format and install Win7, should I be able to simply move it back to the same location again and not lose anything?

OK, everything is up and running. Installed Win7 on a new HD last night (switching over from WinVista), installed iTunes, and copied everything over to the same directory and everything is showing up fine with ratings and playlist. Only thing I didn't see where apps. Will wait and see what happens when I plug in the iPhone this afternoon.

Is your directory structure not the same as this?
Apps

Just looked at it and it is. I'm guessing I'm not seeing the apps because I haven't synced my phone yet. Guess I'll see what happens here shortly.

shouldn't have to, the apps should have been saved under the mobile applications folder.
when you do sync your phone you'll have to transfer purchases to itunes

They are showing in the folder, just nothing in iTunes. I'm going to wait till Sunday to screw around with this as I can't afford to have my phone down for the next couple of days.

Well I syncd the phone and still no apps showing in iTunes but everything was fine on the phone (I didn't lose anything). Double checked the directory and everything is like how you show it on your picture. Figured what the hell, Did a File > Add Files to Library and pointed it to the Mobile Application folder and I'll be damned if everything imported in.

Thanks for the help everybody, glad I didn't lose anything. Next task is to upgrade to 4.1 and re-Jailbreak.
