Got my evo 4g in

yesterday, this is one bad ass phone. Only complaint I have is with Sprint's 4g network, sometimes it connects to it and sometimes it doesn't. I just hope they keep upgrading the tower's or whatnot.

Sweet! I ordered one yesterday... dropped my iPhone and messed up the screen, decided to go ahead and take the leap.

What do you like about it?

Well only had a chance to use it maybe a couple hours so haven't messed with everything yet.

1) fits great in the pocket, not heavy

2) screen looks great, apps are quick and responsive, easy to get around as well

3) really haven't fat fingered the keyboard that much, so good plus there

4) Sound is good

I did do a quick search on the Android market a bit ago looking for a bit torrent app, there were a couple but had bad reviews, but sounds like they are connecting to torrents that have no seeders so might try it for myself.

Battery life blows donkey balls. Heavy usage DESTROYS the battery.

I rooted mine and then flashed to Fresh 3.3.0.3 and it helped plus the free WiFi tether was nice...but they have got to fix the hungriness of this phone.

can't you read? they use old, outdated equipment at their sites, and their service is JUNK! this 4g rollout may prove to be worth a fuck, in the end, but for now it's a joke.

i bet you think their acquisition of nextel wasn't a bad idea either.

I've had mine for about 4 months now and have learned a lot.

As for battery life, get batteryfu off the market. It will help you. Secondly and most importantly get on ebay now and buy the $9.99 shipped 2 Chinese 1500mh batteries with charger. They work great, youll find threads on androidcentral about them. i keep 2 in my wallet and frankly dont care about battery life anymore.

Don't use app killers and you'll be fine. It will take about 6 months to get your damn keyboard text correction right. Make sure you get a silicone bumper protector and buy the $20 Sprint screen protector kit. The zaggs suck.

As for 4g, it IS definitely getting better than it was just a few weeks ago. However the nature of the high frequency does lend itself to being more sensitive to obstructions. The only solution is much more transmitters. You will constantly be in and out of 4g. But, dont get me wrong...4g is really quick. I've seen up to 7mb/s - that's quick.

All of what you said means nothing to me seeing as I have fantastic service everywhere I go. I'm sure you know more about their network than I do, but my experience as a customer is their network performs better than any previous ones I've been on.

Yeah while I'm at work in Dallas the 4g is almost always on, Arlington is hit or miss, no biggie, I know it will get better.

I do have a rubber bumper and screen protectors.

I'll look up those batterys

What are app killers?

No, I can't read. Thanks for helping verify that.
I guess I'm not sure why you would generalize and say they use "old, outdated" equipment and imply that they do this at all of their sites. Sure, everything is going to age, and it's not cost effective to upgrade every site everytime new technology comes out. But yes, all sites have aging equipment, and some have downright old equipment. But if this old equipment is doing its job, what's the problem? Does every rural site need the newest technology with the highest capacity? I guess you must also be right since I'm seeing a lot of their old Nortel and Lucent BTS equipment being replaced by the new Ericsson BTSs. I've been a Sprint customer for a long ass time and their network has always performed for me. I'm not sure why your experience has been so bad.

I'm also sure you know how much money it costs to deploy a complete, saturated new wireless technology across the nation. This can't have anything to do with why 4G is still not located in every square mile of the U.S. Major deployments take time and money, and when you let a shit company like Clearwire run the deployment, you've gotta hold your breath and pray for the best. And I never said shit about Nextel. Nextel always has been and always will be junk.

I've had the EVO for a couple days now...

Battery life is horrible like mentioned above, i'll look into the extra batteries. I'm waiting on my car charger and phone cover to get here. I'm sure the car charger will help a ton.

I'm starting to get the hang of maneuvering around the phone now, though to me it seems laggy compared to the iPhone. Sometimes it takes a moment after I click something for it to load.

I really have not installed many programs. The only utility I loaded has been "Call Confirm", so that I don't accidentally dial someone, especially since my contact list is linked to my Facebook contacts.

What is this app killer that people are talking about?

What are the necessary apps?

Advanced Task Killer is what they're talking about. Just try batteryfu, it works pretty well. Doubletwist for music player/ tons of radio stations. Mostly all the other stuff is just random apps I have, nothing I think you'd use at all. Maybe wakeup launcher, set different stuff to open when your alarm goes off, weather, music, etc.

You can try firefox, they just released a new version. I haven't tried it myself, though.
