I'd recommend CCleaner
http://www.piriform.com/

and Malwarebytes
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

They're both great programs, use both of them at home as well as here in the office.

As Paul said, I use Malwarebytez as well.

Also I use the freeshare of Avira for on time monitoring.

What does CCleaner do to fix Malware and Spyware? Great program but I'm not aware of anything to help with either of those.

Often times, malware will hide in temp files. Ccleaner deletes them thus rendering the infection useless because part/all of the code is gone.

I'd like for you to run this next online scan to check for remnants or anything that might be hidden.
The below scan can take up to an hour or longer, so please be patient.

*Note
It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware app you use.

Using Internet Explorer, visit http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/d...n=1260122209224
Other available links
Kaspersky Online Scanner or from here
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition
    files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. (At times it may appear to stall)
    * Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
    * Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
    * Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report To obtain the report:
Click on: Save Report As
Next, in the Save as prompt, Save in area, select: Desktop
In the File name area, use KScan, or something similar In Save as type, click the drop arrow and select:
Text file [*.txt]
Then, click: Save
Please post the Kaspersky Online Scanner Report in
your reply.

(Note.. for Internet Explorer 7 users:
If at any time you have trouble with the "Accept" button of the license, click on the "Zoom" tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license has been accepted, reset to 100%
.)
Or use Firefox with IE-Tab plugin

I recommend Apples MAC OSX Snow Leopard

<----waiting for the rebuttal from Tx Redneck

For Windows I got pretty good results lately using Microsoft Security Essentials and MalwareBytes.

Apples are susceptible to worms too. I have nothing against Apple, I just have VERY little experience with 'em. Being based on Nix, they're inherently more secure because of the way permissions are handled.

I know I'm just messing with ya . I had no experience with them either until March when I bought a used one on CL. Wish I had done it years ago. For the AVERAGE home user I think Mac blows EVERY version of Windows out of the water. They just work. They are easier to use, they are FAR faster (boot up, shutdown, and operation). Every Windows computer I've owned (95,98,2000 pro, xp, vista, 7) had to have antivirus software...and it was ALWAYS downloading updates and doing scans, and shutting down to implement them (and that doesnt count the WINDOWS updates that do the same). My fastest Win7 laptop (c2d 2.2ghz, 7200rpm HDD, 4gb ram) took on average 1 1/2 mins to boot up to usable condition (if it didn't have a ton of updates to do in which case that could take 5 minutes or more). A 4 yr old 1.8ghz Core Duo Mac with 1gb of ram will fully boot in about 30 seconds. They also have insane battery life. Theres more I could say...but I won't. I like em..and I am a die-hard Windows user.

You can also disable programs that start w/ Windows in Ccleaner.

I'll second everything you said even though this is off topic. I use a Macbook Pro for work, with a windows VM. As dumb as it sounds, Windows 7 and XP run better in Fusion then they do native on normal laptop hardware or in ESXi for me. I'm trying to convert solely to the MAC OS, but damned Cisco is slow to support it a 100% in the UC world.

Anyway, Malwarebytes gets my vote too.

My '03 Sold.
