ps3 only displays in B&W

Im running it on a 1080p sony tv. I bought it yesterday and everything (display without games or dvd) is in black and white. Also i am just running the cable the system came with.. Do i need to go hdmi to get color? WTF am I doing wrong lol?

Bought it brand new and from the time i turn it on everything displays black and white even including the menu before i put a game/dvd in

it's probably just a setting or your tv's way of telling you to stop it. i would feel bad using rca cables on a ps3/1080p tv.

go ahead and get an hdmi cable. don't pay $20+ in store though, you can find them online for like $3.

Sure you have them plugged in right? Component cables are red, blue, green w/ seperate audio cable and RCA cables are red, white, and yellow. Which kind are you working with? You could just have some cables crossed or it could just be a bad set of cables.

Check out www.monoprice.com for the best prices on quality HDMI cables. You need HDMI to get the full effect.

What cables are you using? Components? I know I screwed up plugging in some component cables one time and that's what I got, a funny looking B&W picture.

Only way I could see component cables being used and showing B&W is by having the colors mixed up.

Rule of thumb:

Video syncs on green with component. If the image is blue you are missing the red. If image is red you are missing the blue. Pretty simple little setup. Did you possibly hookup the composite video cables(yellow/red/white), in the component video jacks?
