Windows 7 Users Check Device Manager

I've noticed the last couple months that my Win 7 laptop was running slower. And when I ran ipconfig /all I had over 300 network adapters being returned. Looking in Device Manager I only saw two NICs though.

I didn't know there where hidden devices in Device Manager. After going to View->Show Hidden Devices I saw all 330+ network adapters.

I uninstalled all the tunnelling and 6to4 adapters and followed this to prevent them from coming back The only reg key that worked for me was 0x01 to disable all tunnel IPv6 interfaces.

Anyway now ipconfig /all shows only one NIC. My laptop boots much faster and anything I do related to network responds faster too.

So if you have Win7 check it, might help you out too.

Interesting. Thanks and I'll pass the info along.

Nope, just the usual WAN miniports for each transport layer protocol. Probably a dozen in total, including the Atheros and Realtek NIC.
