i have had two and they worked just as well as any dell or compaq, maybe even a little better. just depends on how you maintain it.

Their decent lappys. All brands have their bad apples though.

I've used Dell, IBM, Toshiba, Emachine, HP ... etc.

I'd have to say the few Toshibas I used are up there - top 3 at least. At least as of 2007 which is the last I used one.

i mean just don't treat it like shit, do defrags on a regualr basis (once a month is fine), if you surf a lot of porn you should get some sort of virus protection.

They're better than most laptops, although at the bottom end of the price range, you can get a lot more bang for the buck.

I have a Toshiba right now that is 3 years old, I dont use it for much but work files and internet but I havent had a problem. I do de-frag and use AVG free but it still works for me. I have bought my wife 2 new laptops since I bought mine and I keep wanting a new one but all I did was upgrade my memory and I cant justify buying a new one yet.

I have the a505 s6980. I only use it for email, internet, MS office, etc. It works very well. I like the 10key for spreadsheets.

http://laptops.toshiba.com/laptops/s...500/A505-S6980

I got it for $550 at best buy about 9 months ago.

I'am posting on one right now. Cheapest of the cheap. The black friday sale years ago when they sold for $200. I bought 2 and my gf stepped on one and broke the screen one night so I use it for parts.

It's been great for the past few years.

Just be aware that Toshiba's are a tad heavier than most and the screen size you're looking at is going to be a heavy laptop, especially if it has a 12 cell battery.

I prefer HP and Sony Vaio, but Toshiba makes some good laptops. All brands will have a model# that is a dud. The one thing I don't like about the new Toshiba's is the weight and the texture of the keyboard keys. All my laptops are 15.6" wide screen and 6 cell batteries. I just don't like heavy ass laptops. A friend of mine has a 17" Toshiba with a 12 cell battery. Too heavy to be practical in my opinion. Not to mention it had a AMD x2 core and it ran very hot.

I'm on a toshiba netbook right now. liked it a LOT more than the mini10 and the other (asus maybe?) that was in the price/spec range.

walked outta best buy for like 380 with it. added a gig of ram and it's gravy. the speakers are junk, but i don't plan on using them much - headphones are just fine with me. oh and it came with a 6 cell battery stock - i've seen anywhere from 7 to 9 hours of use without needing a charge.

I recommend Toshiba to people who don't like Dell for whatever reason. I have always heard good comments from Toshiba users. Good price for the equipment usually. Usually less $$$ than Dell or HP

I bought one last November and haven't had any problems with it at all. It's got Windows 7 which I like a lot...I forget the hard drive size, but it's over 300g with 4g RAM. It's a damn good machine IMO.

I bought my mother a Satellite with a celeron processor over 4 years ago and to my knowledge it still functions like a champ.
