Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

IIRC all Linux distros are free, Snow Leopard can be had for $30, and I have (legit) copies of Windows XP and 7. So price isn't much of a factor here...

I haven't decided yet. Probably Core2Duo with 4GB of DDR2 or DDR3 if I can find a deal on the memory and motherboard. I'm not planning on spending much on this setup, just something to fuck around with and test some mobile apps without running my main computer as a server.

TBH, lightweight - windows with IIS since support is there for it in one way or another.

I'm on the Linux/Mac bandwagon these days - but if you're not a guru with Linux you may get frustrated and end up with an OS you know anyway.

Thought you might like to see this and consider it when you choose your OS.

I'm not trying to argue here, but IIS has always had these problems and there are still huge deployments of them.

Generally speaking, it is a maintenance issue a lot of times that I've seen.

Again, not trying to argue and am all for whatever anyone wants to use. It's a stinking web server, but the underlying OS could frustrate those who are not familiar with a non-MS OS.

I'm of the opinion as Mac/Linux stuff become more and more popular (it is and will) - people will make them look as bad as MS looks these days. The difference is, people won't hate them as much as they hate MS off pure principal.

I do some part-time support for my company I run on the side, most of that is Linux. Let me tell you, when people use Linux out-of-the-box without any additional hardening, it's just as vulnerable as a Windows OS. I can't begin to say how many times I've had to go in to look at a Linux box and it was a disaster. Same with Windows. Both can be hardened. Both should be behind a real firewall, not directly on the internet. That said, I agree that people should go with what they know.

Playoffs are this weekend, so it will officially be over Saturday, whethe permitting. He did make the all star team though, and they will play on tourneys all summer I believe, of course, depending on how far they get. They have a pretty solid team though, so, should last a while.

Yeah, we have a few iPhones.

Don't be afraid of IIS. Keep it patched and don't surf porn on that computer.

Like the other said, linux flavors are free. With free comes alot of work and frustration to keep it running as you like, securely.

If you have a mac, this would IMO be the best route for what your trying to do.
