Remote Log-in To Home Computer

i'm planning on getting an external drive to put my movie library on, and i'm curious if it's a somewhat reasonably easy process to be able to set up a remote log-in capability so that i can access them from another computer when i'm out of town. the computer has windows 7 and i have fios 35mb/35mb (up/down), if that makes any difference.

I use logmein free here at home but it's limited to just controlling the machine, no file transfer ability.

If you need to be able to transfer files from host to remote or vice versa, team viewer can be set up to start w/ the pc and operate it remotely. The deal w/ it is you have to remember each machines login ID and password, that you'd set and have to at least run the quick support app from the host machine to access the remote machine.

That prolly doesn't make good sense but I can help you set it up w/ either one remotely if you'd like, just call me.

EDIT: It's fairly easy to do.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

I'm not sure what you're askin. If you're wanting to stream the content from your external to where ever you're located, you could setup Orb on the machine it's connected to then just login to Orb where ever you're at.

that's pretty much what i'm wanting to do...i don't actually need to move the files anywhere, though that might be easier so in case i lose the internet connection....i'm mostly just wanting to be able to watch a movie, that's stored on my home computer, on my laptop if i'm out of town or traveling.

Cool. I have Orb setup on a dedicated [email protected] machine that doubles as my "media server" if I'm outta town. It works pretty well, give it a shot.

You'd have to have tuner card w/ IR Blaster

I use ORB and I stream Movies/Shows to my phone and it works pretty good. If you steup a TV Tuner on your PC you should be able to use ORB for this as well, but I haven't tired it.
