Video Editors

Ok guys well I have been on the mkt looking for a computer that can edit video. I am completely dark on the subject. I'd like something with video and audio inputs and outputs, lots of memory, but I just don't know where to start. I don't need a fancy program just something that can do basic cuts and dissolves with a couple of audio channels.
I'm looking to keep it under $1000. Any input on your experiences would be appreciated. Desk top or lap top I'm open.

I use Sony Vegas for the software side. Hardware wise make sure you have plenty of USB accessible jacks on the case. (I hate hubs)

If you want a boxed PC now, this will edit videos quite nicely.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.
