WTF "pc-inspector" bullshit...

Someone (probably the wife) said there was a problem with the laptop.

There is an icon at the bottom right that is a green shield and says "Antivirus Soft" and says my computer might be at risk. It won't let me open "Add/Remove programs" because it says some .exe file contains a virus.

I have Norton 360 and I just ran a scan and it says everything is fine.

I tried to open internet explorer, but it takes me to the friggin "pc-inspector" website and wants me to purchase the software. I can't navigate from the damn "pc-inspector" website.

WTF can I do about this?

TIA

I can understand how to go to safe mode, but please explain "rkill" and "combofix", and talk to me like I'm a 2 year old. I'm not a computer guy..

Download Combofix and Rkill from bleepingcomputer.com

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/grinler/rkill.exe

Put it on a thumbdrive or download it and save it to the root of the C:\ before you boot into safe mode.

Run Rkill first - it will go out and kill the processes of known malware programs that may try to fuck with your attempt to remove the malware.

Run Combofix next. It may detect rootkit activity and want to reboot - let it.
Log on as the same user you used when you ran ComboFix.
It will pick up where it left off...run 50 tests and then if necessary reboot the machine again.
Log back in with the same user name and let ComboFix build it's log report. Don't run anything until you see notepad launch and be filled with data.

Boot into normal mode

Download and run Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org. Clean using Fast or Full - Fast takes 5-7 mins, full can take up to an hour.

Reboot.

Have sex with wife. (I assume you don't need instructions here)

Thanks for the help, but I may need some further assistance when I actually try to do this later...

You will be burned at the stake for heresy if you keep this shit up.

I downloaded rkill but when I try to download combofix it won't let me. First windows pops up and says the disk is full or write protected, at this time McAfee pops up and says it stopped a trojan from being installed. So I wasn't able to save the file. Rkill saved fine though.

I don't have the antisoft or pc-inspector stuff but it just seems like my internet connection ain't what it used to be. Video's from Youtube don't load like they did. I have to stop the vid and wait forever before I can play it or it will catch up and stop.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've run McAfee scans a few times and it never finds anything in the scans.

I agree. My Dell came with it, and I dumped it with a quickness and just put AVG Free on there. No problems in the last four years.
