iPhone Keeps Resetting

So I installed that tethering software MyWi last night and played around with it (works good) and went to bed. Got up this morning and synced my iPhone to my PC and it wiped all music and videos out. I'd seen this happen maybe one or two times before, no biggie. Resynced and notice like 7 or 8 GB of space being taken up by "Other". No idea what it was so I did a reset inside of the iPhone by going into Settings > General > Reset. Now the iPhone won't boot up. It brings up the Apple icon and sets there with the spinning wheel and sometimes will turn off and back on and same thing. I've tried doing the hard reset and tried syncing it to my computer hoping I can reset it from within iTunes but no go. Any ideas? Also read somewhere to plug it into the wall outlet and try the reset that way but still nothing. Shit I don't want to have to take it back to the Apple Store with it Jailbroken

Phew... Finally got it into Recovery Mode and got iTunes to restore and upgrade but now it's wanting to install 3.1.3. How the hell can I just get 3.1.2??

Which Iphone do you have, and what broadband is it on?
Is it on 3.1.3 firmware now, or 3.1.2?

iPhone 3Gs with 3.1.3 (originally it was 3.1.2). How can I tell what broadband it's on?

I posted about this a week or 2 ago. You have to point your iTunes to Saurik's server to authorize the 3.1.2 firmware and you'll need to download the firmware and do the shift restore thing. It's really simple.

Wouldn't you of had to already save your ecid shsh files with cydia before doing the 3.1.3 update for that method to work?

I tried finding your post, but couldn't with a quick search. Could you post the link please?

I didn't notice that he already put 3.1.3 on it, but some have got it to work going back as well. I'll see if I can find the post...I'm on my phone so it's a bit of a pain.

Try this link and start with post #77. FYI, people seem to be having better luck putting the iPhone in dfu mode before doing the restore.

Tried that, get an unknown error after itunes tries to verify firmware.

i haven't tried it after installing 3.1.3...i had an issue where had to restore to 3.1.2 and apple wouldn't sign it, so i did the edit to point itunes to saurik's server and loaded 3.1.2 at that point and it worked like a charm. have you already installed 3.1.3? if so, did you try putting your phone in dfu mode before doing the restore to 3.1.2?

Didn't try putting it to dfu mode first. Let me try that.

edit: just tried it. Told me my phone wasn't eligible.
THis is after going to 3.1.3, with a 3gs, running the latest modem/broadband.

Also edited host file. No change.

Oddly enough, even though i had to run a restore (with 3.1.3 again, since it was in dfu mode), without changing the host file back, it still downlaoded and verified from apple.

Not yet to my knowledge.

I'm just sitting patiently on my ass until a jailbreak for 3.1.3 comes out. Everything i've tried to get back to 3.1.2 hasn't worked for me.

First step indicates it won't work for Jose or myself:

1. Firstly made backup on Saurik’s server from Cydia before

I don't believe either of us made a backup before going to 3.1.3

when you first started cydia when you were jailbroken on 3.1.2, it had a pop up that said, "make my life easier"...if you clicked "yes" or "ok" for that, then you should be in good shape. if you clicked "no", then you may be right.

Yea, i don't think we hit yes on it. It was just a warning on the initial page.

I never planned to go to 3.1.3, and had itunes set to never attempt to update. I got screwed by helping a friend fix his phone, and it botched my sim card and settings. AT&T reset my phone, thereby fucking me, and making me have to update.

Hey Magnus, take a look at the following link and see if you think it is doable. I really want to get back to 3.1.2 and being Jailbroken again. I'm going to start reading and wait to hear what you have to say about it.

This would be why it wouldn't work for us:

Fortunately, I had several resources. First, because I had jailbroken my phone and registered my device signature with Jay Freeman's caching service, I knew I could downgrade my phone. As Jay and I discussed in this LiveChat from a few months back, Apple no longer allows you to freely downgrade your iPhone software. All firmware installations must be verified with Apple's signature servers.

I know i haven't, and i don't think you've registered your phone with any other ecid caching service, have you?

Linked to this walkthrough/article:
“If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more [...] If you have an iPhone 3GS, PwnageTool works if you’re currently at version 3.1.2 or below (down to 3.0). [...] Don’t use PwnageTool on the iPhone 3GS if you’re at 3.1.3, it just won’t work (you will need to downgrade to 3.1.2).” “Also, if you use the blacksn0w unlock (currently at baseband 05.11.07), you will need to stay at 3.1.2,” according to the infamous team of hackers.

We're still screwed.
