i'd be in for $299. at $499 they can keep it.
oh yea, this device begs for 4g.
Actually, $499 is a very reasonable price. It has an IPS display panel with LED backlighting. That alone is very high end stuff. IPS panels give you the BEST color replication out there. The TF panels in the vast majority of LCD screens pale in comparison. The other great thing is the extremely wide viewing angle of the panel. TF panels get washed out if you get to far off center. IPS panels don't have that issue at just about any angle.
That is just one reason I think it is a bargain. Look at the other slates out there and compare the prices. Nothing is going to compare from a hardware standpoint.
All that said, I do have a few disappointments.
- no GPS (come on Apple, folks would kill to have a GPS screen like that in their car)
- no webcam (skype or any other kind of video chat would have been great on this device)
- no multi tasking. (Apple didn't say that there was NO multi tasking but they didn't announce it either, so I'm pretty sure it is out)
- no replacable battery (Why on Earth does Apple insist on doing that sort of bullshit.)
Other than that, I think it is pretty kick ass, but as I stated before I'll most likely be waiting for the release of its 2nd generation, just like I did for the iPhone.
OH, and this thing doesn't "beg" for 4G. It SCREAMS for it. I think that will be in the 2nd gen, after all, neither ATT or Verizon really have their 4G networks up and running. Even Sprints WiMAX network is pretty sparse..
