Having an IT friend+malware bytes=clean pc again

I have been having issues for some time, and couldn't get anything to work to sort it out for me. I had been running lavasoft's ad aware, and it kept coming up clean. So he suggested gotomeeting.com

He took over the controls, and was able to end a few key processes, deleted a couple strange files in weir places, and proceeded to get malwarebytes to save. Previously I would either get forwarded to a mirrored or spoofed site, or when I downloaded a file it wouldn't show up anywhere for me to run it. He was able to save it to a new folder. Install it, then run it. And what do you know I had 5 trojans on the machine, one of which was installed when I downloaded and installed a version of Alcohol 120%.

A couple hours later and a series of scans, and I am back in business. No more torrent sites for me either. And did the same on the laptop and found 7 threats, deleted, rebooted and good to go. That one was from my daughter playing games on barbie.com of all places.....

That's a tough one to agree on. It's prolly the most powerful tool for removing infections and has the potential to hose a system as well. I never recommend someone use that w/out someone whose been trained on it.
